2010 Air Rifle Camp Registration Opens with a Flurry - On 25 January registration officially opened for the 2010 CMP Summer Air Rifle Camps, and parents and coaches began faxing in forms early that morning to ensure that their athletes had a slot in the camp of their choice. No camps filled on the first day of registration, but all did receive registrations and early indications show that interest in the 2010 Camp season will be strong. Interested applicants are encouraged to send in registrations soon while ample slots are still available.

2010 Camp Counselor Announcement - The Civilian Marks­manship Program (CMP) is seeking qualified individuals to fill counselor positions for its Three-Position Air Rifle Summer Camps. This premier pro­gram has a long established history of providing the highest quality air rifle instruction in the country for high school athletes. Camp Counselor posi­tions are open to college students who have completed at least one year of college and are members of an NCAA or college club rifle team. Applicants must be available to work and travel from 24 May through 30 July 2010. These are highly competitive positions. Selection will be based on aca­demic performance, shooting experience, coaching and youth leadership experience, and references. A background check is required of all candi­dates and a mandatory drug test will be required for all Camp Counselors who are selected for hiring.

New in 2010 - Sanctioned CMP Match/Clinic Program Changes - This year the CMP has implemented several changes to the Sanctioned Match/Clinic program. The first change is the addition of a $5.00 shipping and handling fee. If you are requesting scorecards, certifi­cates and/or catalogs, you will be required to pay the $5.00 shipping and handling fee. If you are not requesting match materials, the shipping and handling fee will be waived.

USAMU set to host Army Small Arms Championships - By Michael Molinaro, USAMU PAO - FORT BENNING, Ga. - The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, in conjunction with the Maneuver Center of Ex­cellence and Fort Benning, will host the 2010 U.S. Army Small Arms Championships, the 'All-Army,' Feb. 20-27. Training and competitions are open to all Soldiers of any rank in the entire Army formation, including West Point and college ROTC cadets, Army Reservists and National Guardsmen. 2010 CMP Monthly Match Program. The Civil­ian Marksmanship Program (CMP) invites you and your club rifle team to participate in the CMP’s Monthly Matches. The matches will take place at the CMP’s Marksmanship Centers North (Camp Perry, OH) and South (Anniston, AL) on 6 March, 24 April (Ohio only), 15 May and 19 June. The competitions will feature a Junior Air Rifle 3x20, 60 Shots Air Rifle Standing, 60 Shots Air Pistol, a 20 shot Novice Prone stage, a National Match Air Rifle 20 Shot Standing and 3x20 events. 2010 JMIC Master Instructor Training Courses. The CMP will conduct a series of JMIC Master Instructor Training Workshops in 2010 to train new JMIC Master Instructors and recertify current active JMIC Mas­ter Instructors who were originally trained in 2005 and whose certificates expire in 2010. Recent experience in conducting rifle marksmanship training and organizing a rifle team at a JROTC Unit or Junior Rifle Club is a prereq­uisite for attending a JMIC Master Instructor Course. 2010 GSM Master Instructor Workshops Announced. Experienced rifle marksmanship instructors and shooters who would like to receive advanced training and be certified as “Master Instructors” to teach CMP-sanctioned Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military Rifle or Rimfire Sporter Clinics are invited to apply to attend a CMP Master Instructor Train­ing Workshop. The GSM Master Instructor Workshops are:



10-11 April - Anniston, AL

7 May - Camp Butner, NC (Prior to the start of the Eastern Games)

11-12 September - Camp Perry, OH

15 October - Phoenix, AZ (Prior to the start of the Western Games)

In 2010, the CMP is sponsoring a series of special matches to introduce the new National Match Air Rifle (NMAR) shooting sports discipline.
