Because of the recent ammunition shortages, the NRA Pistol Committee has just voted to suspend the Distinguished Revolver requirement for new or remanufactured ammo at Camp Perry in 2009. Reloads will be allowed under this temporary rule suspension. This suspension is only for Camp Perry, and not for other Distinguished Revolver matches.

.38 special caliber ammo, with lead 158 gr. round nosed or semi-wad cutter bullets are still required.

Interesting. What's the motivation for this? - are there concerns that competitors may not be able to train and compete w/ the same ammo?

* I don't mind BTW, just interested to know.

Because of the recent ammunition shortages (in the USA).

Many competitors can not find factory or commercially remanufactured .38 ammo anywhere at all. This one-time exemption to allow reloads was necessary, or many shooters would not be able to compete in the Distinguished Revolver match at Camp Perry.
