Possible Scottish Airgun Ban - Online Petition

To Whom it may concern,
As you may be aware, The Calman Commission in Scotland was tasked with finding how better the Scottish Parliament can serve the needs of the Scottish people as a devolved government. One of its findings has been to recommend that the Scottish Parliament have control over the laws pertaining to airguns. The Scottish Parliament has made it clear it would use these new powers to ban airguns in Scotland. Obviously these new laws will cause serious problems for airgun enthusiasts in Scotland, and seriously jeopardise sporting shooting.
I have set up an online petition on the website of the Prime Minister's office, Number10.gov.uk, to petition the PM to withhold these powers, the link to the petition is below:-

This type of news DRIVES ME CRAZY! Is violent crime really going to go down one air guns are outlawed? They'll have better luck reducing crime by banning baseball bats. Er..., Cricket Bats.

Totally agree with you OZ,
Its knife crime in the UK that is the problem, not air gun crime.
Ironically enough, base ball bats are or were the favourite weapon of some gangs in the UK because they fitted down your pants, a cricket bat is too wide to do this.
As usual the politicians love to get a vote catcher.
I doubt it will come to any thing.

The problem in the UK - or anywhere else for that matter - is not "knife crime" any more than it is "air gun crime". Criminals and people who wish to be violent will use whatever tool they find convenient. If the gun tool is not available, they will use the knife tool. If the knife tool is not available, they will use some other tool. The gun, the knife, the baseball bat, the whatever, are merely tools. Banning them will have no effect on crime or violence, even if the ban succeeds in eliminating the tool in question, because there's always another tool available. Every time a phrase such as "handgun crime" or "knife crime" is used, it tends to confirm the mistaken belief that the tool is responsible for the act, rather than the person wielding it.

Some politicians seem to forget that the first crime (according to the bible) was committed with a bone!
Haven't they got anything more serious to think about?

Unfortunately the politicians are largely just concerned with winning more votes. The media sensationalise gun and knife crime, and the politicians react to that.
