Shooters to Compete at ISSF World Cup in Munich

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 13, 2009) - Approximately 1,100 Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun shooters from around the world will be competing at the 2009 ISSF World Cup in Munich, Germany May 14-20. The U.S. has already claimed six medals so far in the 2009 ISSF World Cup Series and is looking to improve their medal tally in Munich.
Five out of the six 2008 USA Shooting Olympic Medalists including Glenn Eller (Katy, Texas) – gold, Men’s Double Trap; Vincent Hancock (Eatonton, Ga.) – gold, Men’s Skeet; Matt Emmons (Browns Mills, N.J.) – silver, Men’s 50m Prone Rifle; Kim Rhode (El Monte, Calif.) – silver, Women’s Skeet; Corey Cogdell (Eagle River, Alaska) – bronze, Women’s Trap will be competing for spots on the medal podium in Munich.
Keith Sanderson (San Antonio, Texas), a 2008 Olympian, will be looking to capture his third ISSF World Cup medal in 2009 in the Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event. He won the silver in Changwon, Korea in April and also captured the gold in at the Beijing, China World Cup one week later. Michael McPhail (Darlington, Wis.) won the bronze medal in Beijing in Men’s 50m Prone Rifle and will be shooting for his second World Cup medal.
The World Cup is being held at the 1972 Olympic Shooting Range in Munich, which has recently been renewed to host this event, with a brand new five-range shotgun venue reconstructed next to the 1972 Games rifle and pistol halls. The shooters will compete in all the 15 ISSF Olympic shooting events.
This world-level competition is a unique chance to test the renewed shooting venue, where the ISSF World Shooting Championships will take place in 2010.
