7th National JROTC Air Rifle Championship - The 2009 JROTC marksmanship competition season concluded on 27-28 March with the 7th National JROTC Championship at Fort Benning, Georgia. 156 JROTC Cadets representing 61 JROTC units from 24 states qualified for the event. The National Championship was the culmination of a long season that began last fall for these Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force JROTC Cadets. For many competitors, reaching the National Championship was also the culmination of many years of marksmanship training and goal setting to qualify for this event.

2009 U.S. Army Junior Open Air Rifle Postal Phase Complete - The competitor field is set for the 2009 U.S. Army Open Air Rifle Championship. Over 1,121 shooters sent in targets to the CMP for the Postal stage of the competition, this stage determined the State Champions who then advance to the U.S. Army Open Air Rifle Nationals that will be held at Fort Benning, GA 14-16 May.

CMP Monthly Air Gun Matches. The CMP invites you to participate in the upcoming monthly matches held at the CMP Marksmanship Centers in Port Clinton, OH and Anniston, AL. Air rifle, air pistol and National Match Air Rifle competitors can still sign up for the 18 April match at Camp Perry. These matches are held each month at the CMP’s Camp Perry and Anniston Marksmanship Training Centers. The Camp Perry Center is fully equipped with electronic targets; electronic target installation will take place at Anniston in June. Dates for upcoming matches at Camp Perry are 18 April, 16 May and 20 June. Anniston’s upcoming matches are 8-9 May and 26-27 June. CMP monthly air gun matches offer 3x20 sporter and precision class events for juniors and 60-shot International Standing and 60-shot Air Pistol matches for seniors and juniors. The Camp Perry monthly match programs also offer National Match Air Rifle 20-shot standing and full course standing-sitting-prone events that are open to all ages. Three CMP Master Instructor Courses to train CMP GSM (As-Issued Military Rifle: Garand-Springfield-Military Rifle) Master Instructors are now open for registration. The next available course will be on 1-2 May at Camp Butner, North Carolina. The workshop is open to all experienced rifle marksmanship instructors and shooters who would like to receive advanced training and be certified as “Master Instructors” to teach CMP-sanctioned Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military Rifle Clinics at their home clubs. Course instruction and practical work will take place on Friday, 1 May. Master Instructor students will then assist with the range training portion of the Eastern CMP Games new shooter clinic that will take place at Camp Butner on Saturday morning, 2 May. Registration is now open for two other courses, one at Camp Perry, Ohio on 6-7 June and one at Anniston, Alabama on 26-27 September. In addition to the traditional As-Issued Military Rifle Matches, this year’s CMP Games Matches offer M1 Carbine, Rimfire Sporter and Pistol EIC matches. Rimfire Sporter and Pistol EIC Matches in the 2009 Eastern CMP Games at Camp Butner, North Carolina. On Sunday, 3 May, the program offers a pistol new shooter clinic in the morning. The afternoon schedule includes a regular Pistol EIC match for M1911 or M9/92 service pistols, a Special 4-point EIC match for As-Issued U. S. Military Pistols and an experimental match for any As-Issued Military Pistol. The afternoon program also offers a 60-shot Rimfire Sporter Match. The dates for the highly popular summer camps were posted in early January and applications are coming in fast! 2009 camp openings remain at Albuquerque, NM (1-5 June); Fort Benning, GA (13-15 July, advanced); and Linn, MO (27-31 July). Five of the eight camps scheduled are now full so it is important to submit your applications as soon as possible.
