Hammerlie

Post by peepsight »

I noticed recently that the Walther Web site has removed the Hammerlie air rifles from its lists of guns and all that remain are the Hammerlie air pistols along with the Hammerlie free pistol and other hand guns.
Does this mean the end of Hammerlie air rifles?

Wouldn't be a surprise... BTW, that's spelled "Hämmerli".

Sorry about the spelling, i think we can blame the parent company Umerex for this. Although the Hammerli AR-50 Alu pro was not as popular as the other brands, i always thought it had one of the best alu stocks and very adjustable for fit and balance. It was a really well thought out rifle. However, i felt it needed up dating in certain areas such as the dry fire system and perhaps the sight dovetails could be the same as Walther.

Perhaps we can get some info from Walther/Umerex as to their policy on Hammerli and the future.

IMHO, it was always clear that Walther was primarily interested in the spare parts market of Hämmerli, and nothing else. And looking at the service philosophy of Walther, that was the gravestone.

FP60 also discontinued ?

Post by jipe »

There are also rumours that the FP60 is discontinued and not manufactured anymore. Any information about that ?

Actually, the FP60 is the only Hammerli product for which there is no equivalent Walther product:
- Hammerli air rifles are (were) cheap alternative for Walther AR. But Walther AR have now a lot of success and it seems logical that Walther drop the Hammerli AR.
- SP20 is competing against the SSP and GSP. The only real advantage is the .32SW version that is much more modern than the GSP.
- AP40 is competing against LP300XT and is slowily becoming a cheap alternative.

You make some sensible points, i just think its a shame that another air gun bites the dust because it got swallowed up by the big guys.

The Walther AR-30 was designed and built by Hammerli before the take over, then Walther re badged it with their logo. Oh well the signs of the times i guess.
