Navy Wraps-Up 2009 JROTC Ser­vice Championships at Camp Perry - The last of the 2009 JROTC Air Rifle Service Championships concluded on 27-28 February at Camp Perry, Ohio when the Civil­ian Marksmanship Program played host to the best Navy JROTC shooters from all over the country. This was the third weekend in a row that a major junior championship was held in the CMP’s new Camp Perry Marksmanship Center, with its 80-firing point electronic target equipped air gun range.

Creedmoor National Match Air Rifle (NMAR) Unveiling at Annis­ton Air Rifle Test Match on 14 March - A brand new concept in target air rifles will be unveiled at an air rifle competition that will take place at the CMP’s Anniston (Alabama) Competition Center this Saturday, 14 March. Creedmoor Sports Inc., one of the major shooting sports equipment suppliers in the USA, has designed an AR style air rifle built around an Anschütz 8001 barreled ac­tion. This rifle was designed in conjunction with the development of the CMP's new Na­tional Match Air Rifle shooting discipline. The first Creedmoor prototype will be unveiled at a test competition for the new discipline in An­niston on 14 March.

2009 Eastern U.S. Junior High­power Clinic and Championship Enrollment Now Open - The Eastern U.S. Junior Highpower Clinic and Champi­onship will take place on 20-26 June at Camp Butner, North Carolina. The Eastern U.S. Jun­ior Highpower Clinic and Championship offers a full week of clinics, coaching and competi­tion for junior service rifle competitors.


Juniors attending the clinic will have the opportunity to expand their current level of experience and expertise as well as build friendships and camara­derie with other shooters. The Civilian Marksmanship Program and the Jun­ior Marksmanship Support Group organize this event in cooperation with the North Carolina National Guard, North Carolina Rifle and Pistol Associa­tion and the USMC Rifle Team.

The 2009 Camp Riflery ITC dates are now posted on the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/CRProgram.htm#ITCs. The goal of the CMP Camp Riflery Instructor Training Course (ITC) is to train individuals who will work as camp riflery instructors so that they can return to their camps and, with very little assistance, teach rifle marksmanship and oper­ate a camp range safely. Anyone who will work as a camp riflery instructor may enroll in an ITC by using the ITC location and dates listed on the CMP web site. U. S. Army Junior Open Air Rifle Postal Targets Due. If you ordered postal targets for the U.S. Army Junior Open Air Rifle Postal, they need to be postmarked by 13 March and sent to the CMP. This year, awards will be given in every state. The top ten sporter and precision state champions will qualify for the national competition, regardless of the num­ber of entries in that state. In addition, the top ten at-large individual com­petitors in the sporter and three-position events will receive invitations to Fort Benning. This year the national championship at Fort Benning will be in May. Results from the Postal Phase will be posted on the CMP web site at http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/report_m ... tchID=4148.



Attention Highpower and Air Rifle Shooters in South­east! The CMP will conduct its second test match for its new National Match Air Rifle discipline at the CMP Competition Center in Anniston, Ala­bama on 14 March. If you live in the Southeast U. S. and are interested in an off-season event for highpower rifle shooters or are interested in finding a new recreation-oriented shooting game that is easy to start and promises to be a lot of fun, you are invited to come to Anniston on 14 March. Muskegon Pistol and Rifle Club M1 for Vets Match. The Muskegon Pistol and Rifle club will hold an M1 for Vets Match on April 4th. The Match will take place at MRPCs Outdoor Range in Holton, Michigan. The course of fire will be the John C. Garand Match Course "A". ORPA/FOCP Third Annual Combat Pistol Pop-up Tar­get Shoot. The Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association and the Friends of Camp Perry organization will hold their Third Annual Combat Pistol Pop-up Target Shoot on Saturday, 11 April at the Combat Pistol Range on Camp Perry, in Port Clinton, Ohio. Shooting will start at 9:00 AM and continue un­til 1:00 PM, or until all shooters have fired which ever comes first. Each re­lay will shoot 40 rounds at 30 targets using pistols firing no larger than .45ACP ammunition. Food and beverages will be available. Registra­tion starts at 8:00 AM. The cost for registering to fire in one relay is $15.00 for non-FOCP members and $10.00 for FOCP members. Shooters may also re-enter to fire in subsequent relays. The next CMP Master Instructor Course to train CMP GSM (As-Issued Military Rifle: Garand-Springfield-Military Rifle) Master Instructors now is open for registration. The course will be conducted on 1-2 May at Camp Butner, North Carolina. This workshop is open to all experienced rifle marksmanship instructors and shooters who would like to receive ad­vanced training and be certified as “Master Instructors” to teach CMP-sanctioned Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military Rifle Clinics at their home clubs. Course instruction and practical work will take place on Fri­day, 1 May. Master Instructor students will then conduct the range training portion of the Eastern CMP Games open clinic that will take place at Camp Butner on Saturday morning, 2 May. Registration Open for 2009 Eastern CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches. The 2009 CMP Junior Air Rifle Camp schedule and application forms are posted on the CMP website! The dates for the highly popular summer camps were posted in early January and applications are coming in fast! 2009 camps will be offered at Albuquerque, NM; Camp Perry, OH; Anniston, AL; Fort Benning, GA; Corvallis, OR and Linn, MO. Three out of the eight camps scheduled are now full so it is important to submit your ap­plications as soon as possible. CMP Monthly Air Gun Matches. The CMP invites you to partici­pate in the upcoming monthly matches held at the CMP Marksmanship Centers in Port Clinton, OH and Anniston, AL. These matches are part of a series of matches held at Camp Perry and Anniston each month. Dates for upcoming matches at Camp Perry are 21 March, 18 April, 16 May and 20 June. Anniston upcoming matches are 3-4 April, 8-9 May and 26-27 June. Monthly air gun matches feature a wide variety of Air Gun disci­plines. There are 3x20 sporter and precision class events for juniors, a 60 shot International Standing Match, a 60 shot Air Pistol match and the CMP's newly created National Match Air Rifle discipline that features 20-shot standing match and 3x20 events with three rifle classes that are open to all ages.
