The Navy JROTC Championship Appears Live on the CMP Website Today and Tomorrow. The 2009 Navy Junior ROTC Air Rifle Championship kicked off this morning at the Camp Perry (Ohio) Marksmanship Center. Continually updated scores live target images for all competitors in this competition are being displayed on the Internet so you can watch the competition as it unfolds today and tomorrow.

Over 200 individual high school age Cadets representing schools from throughout the country are competing in this National Navy JROTC Championship. Competition today takes place between 10:00 AM and 5:30 PM, EST. Competition tomorrow takes place between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, EST. Individual finals tomorrow, start at 4:00 PM, EST.

To see how these great young shooters are doing, go to the CMP website at http://odcmp.com. Click on Navy JROTC Service Championship Results at the top center of the page. Open the results lists shown at the bottom of the page to see current individual and team rankings schools the competitors represent. Incomplete scores are live and continually updated until a day's course of fire is completed. The names of every competitor who is currently firing are shown in red at the top of the page. Click on a name and an image of that shooter's current target will appear. Three relays of competitors will fire each day so the lists of competitors and their rankings will change throughout both days. The best way to find out who the leaders are is to click on Sporter or Precision Class Leaderboards at the bottom of the list of competitor names.

To appreciate the tremendous skills of these young shooters, you must know that to score a ten, the shot fired with a .177 caliber air rifle at a distance of 10 meters (33 feet) must hit the tiny dot in the center of the target. That 10-dot is only one-half millimeter in diameter.

The CMP hopes many of you will take advantage of this unique and pioneering opportunity to watch an exciting target competition among many of the best junior shooters in the country. To see this competition live on your computer, go to the CMP website at http://odcmp.com. Click on Navy JROTC Service Championship Results at the top center of the page.

Attention Highpower and Air Rifle Shooters in Southeast! The CMP will conduct its second test match for its new National Match Air Rifle discipline at the CMP Competition Center in Anniston, Alabama on 14 March. If you live in the Southeast U. S. and are interested in an off-season event for highpower rifle shooters or are interested in finding a new recreation-oriented shooting game that is easy to start and promises to be a lot of fun, you are invited to come to Anniston on 14 March.

National Match Air Rifle features two courses of fire similar to the highpower rifle standing and John C. Garand courses of fire. It is shot on reduced highpower 200 and 600-yard targets on 10-meter ranges with air rifles. Provisional rules provide for three rifle classes, sporter, match/precision and AR-type air rifles. The CMP invites both experienced highpower shooters and recreational air gun shooters to try the 14 March test match to learn more about this new rifle discipline and provide feedback to help finalize the rules. The CMP has produced 10-bull paper AR-SR and AR-MR targets that will be used in this match and will be available to shooting clubs. Industry prototype AR style air rifles from Pilkington Competition Equipment and Creedmoor-Anschütz will be available for examination and testing at the match.
