New 2-Person Junior Team Match Coming in 2009 National Trophy Rifle Matches - Junior service rifle shooters will have the opportunity to compete in a new two-person team match during the 2009 CMP National Trophy Rifle Matches at Camp Perry. The new match will replace the Whistler Boy Junior Service Rifle Team Match. The new event, to be fired on Wednesday, 5 August, will be named the National Trophy Junior Team Match. A striking new trophy called “Freedom’s Fire” will be awarded to the winning team.

The Camp Perry Open air rifle tournament on 16-18 January is set to begin this Friday. The junior three-position relay (relay 2) on Saturday morning is completely full with a waiting list. Junior three-position entry spots are still available on Friday evening, but not on Saturday. The 40-shot women’s and 60-shot men’s air rifle standing events both have a few entry spaces available for late entries. Entries include several members of the U. S. Army International Rifle Team as well as Olympic Training Center resident athletes. Jamie Beyerle who placed 4th in the 2008 Olympic Games women’s air rifle event in Beijing plans to compete. Enter Now--U. S. Army Junior Air Rifle Championship. Junior shooting clubs and JROTC units have until 1 March to enter and order targets for the State Championship Postal Phase of the annual Army junior air rifle competition and until 13 March to fire and return their targets. Team entries can be made on-line at http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/matchInf ... tchID=4148. Entry fees are still just $5 per shooter and there are no additional team fees. In 2008, 240 teams and over 1,700 individual juniors participated in the State Championship Postal Phase. This competition offers team and individual three-position sporter and standing precision air rifle events. This year, awards will be given in every state. The top ten sporter and precision state champions will qualify for the national competition, regardless of the number of entries in that state. In addition, the top ten at-large individual competitors in the sporter and three-position events will receive invitations to Fort Benning. This year the national championship at Fort Benning will be in May. The official match program and entry forms are posted on the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/3P/Army_Jr_Championship.htm.
National Match Air Rifle Matches. The test match for the new CMP National Match Air Rifle program succeeded in spite of a heavy snowstorm that prevented many shooters from coming. A complete report will be available in the next Shooters’ News. A second National Match Air Rifle Test Match is now scheduled to take place at the CMP Competition Center in Anniston, Alabama on 14 March. If you live in the southeast USA and are interested in trying this new air rifle event, put that date on your calendar. On-line registration for the Anniston match will be available in the next few days.
The 2009 CMP Junior Air Rifle Camp schedule and application forms are posted on the CMP website! The dates for the highly popular summer camps were posted last week. Applications may be submitted, starting on Monday, 19 January. 2009 camps will be offered at Albuquerque, NM; Camp Perry, OH; Anniston, AL; Fort Benning, GA; Corvallis, OR and Linn, MO. If you would like to attend a CMP camp this summer, it is important to submit your applications as soon as possible, on or after 19 January. 2008 CMP Monthly Match in Anniston, Alabama - Air Rifle and Air Pistol Marksmanship Competition. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) invites you and your club or school rifle team to participate in a new series of matches. The first matches will take place on 23-25 January 2009 at the CMP’s brand new Competition Center South. The competition will feature a Junior Air Rifle 3x20, 60 Shots Air Rifle Standing and 60 Shots Air Pistol matches. The CMP will offer these matches on a monthly basis and will feature two days of competition.
