Ohio Army National Guard and Ci­vilian Marksmanship Program Host First Open House at the Camp Perry Marksmanship Center - In the summer of 2008, the Ohio Army National Guard (OHNG) and the Civilian Marksmanship Pro­gram (CMP) opened the Camp Perry Marks­manship Center, which features a state-of-the-art electronic air rifle range and a National Guard Engagement Skills Trainer (EST). Since the new facility opened several events and train­ing sessions have taken place, but the range has not been open for the local community to take a hands-on tour. This was finally remedied on 15 November with the first Camp Perry Marksmanship Center Open House.

Western Creedmoor Cup Matches a Success - In conjunction with the Civilian Marksmanship Program's Western Games held 11-14 October where a record number of shooters participated, the Creedmoor Cup Matches followed at the Ben Avery (Black Canyon) Shooting Facility on 15-19 October.


The Creedmoor Cup Matches, co-sponsored by CMP and Creedmoor Sports, Inc. of Oceanside, California, gave shooters an opportunity to par­ticipate in a rifle clinic plus four days of match and service rifle competition.

CMP Welcomes New Program Staff Leader - Robert E. “Rob” Harbison, 42, has joined the Civilian Marksmanship Program, serving in the newly-created role of Director of Program Operations after a 20-year career in the US Army. Harbison re­tired from the Army, effective 30 September, as a Lieu­tenant Colonel, most-recently serving at Fort Benning, Georgia and has begun his assignment at CMP head­quarters at Camp Perry.

USA Shooting Announces Glenn Eller, Kim Rhode as 2008 Athletes of the Year - USA Shooting is pleased to announce that 2008 Olympic gold medalist Glenn Eller (Katy, Texas) and 2008 Olym­pic silver medalist Kim Rhode (El Monte, Calif.) have been selected as the 2008 USAS Athletes of the Year. These athletes were chosen based on the USAS Athlete of the Year Policies and Procedures and were selected by a points system. More Details



Match Results for 18 Oct 08 CMP GSM “As-Issued” Ga­rand, Springfield, Military Vintage Bolt-action Match - Submitted by the Howell Gun Club - The Howell Gun Club’s CMP Sanc­tioned 50 round Course-B Garand, Springfield and Military Bolt-Action “As-Issued” Match was blessed with beautiful weather and fall colors. Over 20 competitors and range assistants left their leaf-rakes at home and traveled with their rifles to participate in a great match. The Howell Gun Club (HCG) supported the “M1 for Vets” grassroots program honoring the dedi­cation and selfless service of James McKelvey who placed his life on the line while serving with the 745 Explosive Ordnance Company from Camp Grayling, MI serving in Iraq. James was invited to shoot at the CMP Match by his friend and fellow EOD team member, Ed Allbraugh. More Details


In Memoriam. Sergeant First Class Brent Lan­tagne, USAR, 38, from Excanaba, Michigan, died on 4 November, as a result of an automobile acci­dent. He was en route from his home to Camp Bullis, Texas where he was scheduled to serve as a USAR SARG (Small Arms Readiness Group) marksmanship instructor. SFC Lantagne was an active competitive pistol shooter and National Matches competitor and had earned the Distin­guished Pistol Shot Badge. In 2008, SFC Lantagne was the Team Coach of the USAR Black Pistol Team that won the Coast Artillery Trophy as the High Reserve Component Team in the National Tro­phy Pistol Team Match. Sincerest condolences are extended to SFC Lantagne's wife, daughter, son and other members of his family.


In Memoriam. CMP GSM (Garand-Springfield-Military Ri­fle) Master Instructor Course Completed at Anniston--Two new courses are currently open for registration. A CMP GSM Master Instructor Training Course was conducted at


the new CMP Marksmanship Center at Anniston, Alabama on 8-9 Novem­ber, with 16 new Master Instructors being certified. Two additional Master Instructor courses are currently scheduled and are open for enrollment. One will take place on 24-25 January, at Camp Perry, Ohio and on and the second on 1-2 May, at Camp Butner, North Carolina. These workshops are open to all experienced rifle marksmanship instructors and shooters who want to receive advanced training and be certified as “Master Instructors” to teach CMP-sanctioned Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military Rifle Clin­ics at their home clubs or ranges. CMP November 2008 Monthly Match – Anniston, Alabama. The Ci­vilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) invites you and your club rifle team to participate in a new series of matches.


The first match will take place on 21-23 November at the CMP’s brand new Competition Center Anniston. The competition will feature two days of Jun­ior Air Rifle 3x20, 60 Shots Air Rifle Standing and 60 Shots Air Pistol matches. CMP December 2008 Monthly Match – Camp Perry, Ohio. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) invites junior and adult shooters in the Midwest to participate in the monthly matches that take place at the new Camp Perry Marksmanship Center. The next match in this series will take place on 12-14 December. The competition will feature a Saturday evening clinic and three days of Junior Air Rifle 3x20, 60 Shots Air Rifle Standing and 60 Shots Air Pistol matches. Virginia Area JROTC JMIC Course Scheduled. SFC An¬drew Babic, JROTC JMIC Master Instructor, and Virginia Junior Direc­tor CMP will host a JMIC Course (Junior Marksmanship Instructor Course) on 22 November at American Legion Post 146 located at 217 E. City Point Road, Hopewell, VA 23860. Class is scheduled from 9:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. Registration is required and there is no cost for the JMIC Course. The Linden Sportsmen’s Club is holding an Angel Tree/Christmas Express Shoot on December 7th, 2008 in Linden, Michi­gan. Registration begins at 9:00 am with firing at 10:00 am. Cost is $20.00, plus $5.00 if you need ammunition but if you bring a new un­wrapped toy, you will receive a $10.00 discount on range fees. 2009 Camp Perry Open. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) invites you to participate in the third annual Camp Perry Open on the CMP’s new state-of-the-art air gun range featuring 80 firing points equipped with MEGALink electronic targets. This year’s match will include a three-position air rifle competition, an international air rifle course of fire (all standing) event, and an optional clinic at Camp Perry, Ohio. The match will be held on 16-18 January 2009.
