Congratulations to Warren Potent for taking out the Bangkok World Cup 50m Prone Final today and also a successful marriage proposal!

The Olympic Bronze medallist Warren POTENT shot Gold at the 50m Rifle Prone Men Event. The 46-year old Australian shooter surprised everybody, asking for his fiancée hands in marriage from the podium. USA’s Matthew EMMONS closed in second, only fifth the Olympic Champion Artur AIVAZIAN.


The Olympic Bronze medallist of Beijing Warren POTENT of Australia won today’s 50m Rifle Prone Men competition at the ISSF World Cup Final, held at the shooting range of Bangkok.
With a qualification score of 598 points, the 46-year old Australian champion entered the final match in first place with a two points head start on the following Matthew EMMONS (USA).
POTENT managed his advantage, leading the final round from the first to the last shot, and closed the final in first place by firing 104.2 points, for a total score of 702.2 points.
During the award ceremony, POTENT surprised everybody calling his fiancée to the podium, and asking for her hand in marriage in front of the crowded final hall.
“I met her here in Thailand, last year… She said yes!” exclaimed the Australian shooter, while wearing a ring on his fiancée’s finger.

Matthew EMMONS of the USA finished in second place with a total score of 700.7 points. The American shooter fired one of the highest final score, 104.7 points, but could not catch up POTENT due to a lower qualification score of 596 points. EMMONS, Olympic Champion of Athens 2004 and Silver medallist at the last Olympic Games of Beijing, had already won a World Cup Final Silver medal here in Bangkok, last year.

The Olympic Champion of Beijing, Artur AIVAZIAN, 35, from Ukraine, had qualified in fifth place with 595 points, and tried to gain a spot on the podium right to the last shot. AIVAZIAN fought neck and neck with the Japanese shooter Toshikazu YAMASHITA and the second American finalist Michael MCPHAIL, but eventually landed in fifth place with a total score of 699.1 points.
The 31-year old YAMASHITA, who had qualified for this World Cup Final at this year’s World Cup stage in Milan, won the duel for Bronze finishing on the podium with a total score of 699.9 points. He preceded MCPHAIL, who closed in fourth place with 699.4 points.
