Paralympic Shooting 2008

Post by Hemmers »

Noone seems to have posted, so I will.

Start lists, schedule and results can be found at http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRMP/ENG/ ... e/SH.shtml for the 2008 Paralympic Shooting Events (Air Rifle & Pistol, Free Rifle & Pistol, Sport Rifle & Pistol).

For Information:
SH1: Pistol and Rifle competitors that do not require a shooting stand.

SH2: Rifle competitors who have no ability to support the weight of the firearm with their arms and therefore require a shooting stand.

There is an SH3 category for shooters with a visual impairment, but they don't hold any SH3 events at the Paralympics.

Thank you for providing the link to follow the shooters!

I know all of the archery participants on the U.S. team. I am quite proud of one young lady in particular. Lindsey Carmichael set a world record in Athens four years ago. She has a blog set up at:

You might enjoy reading about her experiences and another "shooting" sport.

Come see us in the woods!

Lindsey won the bronze medal in archery! All of our shooting sports are a mental game. Add a physical problem and it becomes even more so.

Two matches were shot by four archers today. They were head to head matches between two archers each at 70 meters. The two winners moved on to the Gold/Silver match while the two who were not succesful in moving on competed for the Bronze. Lindsey and her number one ranked Korean competitor were tied at the end of their match. They then shoot one arrow each and the high score wins. Lindsey lost. If they shot the same score they would have shot a second arrow. If they shot the same score a second time they would have shot a third arrow each and the arrow closest to the center would be the winner.

The two ladies who had to compete for the Bronze literally had only minutes to move to a different venue and compete against each other.

Read her blog and you will find throughout her mental thoughts. As you read about how she mentally handled the entire tournament remember she also has some physical difficulties (quite a bit of pain).
