30 Shooters earn 4-point legs in M9 EIC Match - This year’s winner of the third annual M9 Excellence in Competition (EIC) Pistol Match was Ronald Maksout, 51, of Southfield, Michigan who fired an aggregate 268-4X to earn four introductory leg points that count towards the 30 points needed to earn the Distinguished Pistol Badge.

NRA President John Sigler fires First Shot - Under a warm and cloudy sky on the western shore of Lake Erie, several hundred onlookers, including competitive shooters, officials and guests watched as keynote speaker John C. Sigler, president of the NRA, fired the ceremonial first shot to open the 2008 National Rifle & Pistol Trophy Matches during the traditional First Shot Ceremony on Monday, 7 July.

Pistol Small Arms Firing School - Taking knowledge to a higher level was the theme of this year’s Pistol Small Arms Firing School on 7-8 July, as 365 attendees and competitors benefited from outstanding firearms instruction and the opportunity to participate in the third annual M9 Excellence in Competition (EIC) match the next morning.

The Crooked Creek Conservation Club proudly announces the completion of a covered, 10-station, 50-foot, Rimfire Sporter Range in Hartsgrove, Ohio. Crooked Creek has been hosting Rimfire Sporter Clinics and Matches since 2007 and now boasts a dedicated range. This is the finest Rimfire Sporter facility in Northeastern Ohio. The Camp Perry Retired Marines (CPRM) will host their 2008 Junior Dinner at the Camp Perry Club House on July 30th (the day of the Whistler Boy Match) at 7:00 P.M. Tickets are $12.00 per person. The dinner includes Kentucky Fried Chicken with five different side dishes and drinks. Over $7,000 in door prizes will be given away. Everyone is welcome to attend. San Diego, California Area JROTC JMIC Course Scheduled. EMCM Mike Pittman USN (Ret) will be holding a JMIC Class on 25 July in San Diego, CA. This course is open to all instructors/coaches and will be held at the conclusion of the NJROTC New Instructor Training Course (NITC). If you are interested in attending the JMIC Course, please email pittmanls@training.navy.mil.
Houston, Texas Area JROTC JMIC Courses Scheduled. MAJ Alexander Talley, Army JROTC JMIC Master Instructor, will host two JMIC Courses (Junior Marksmanship Instructor Course) this summer. The JMIC Courses will be hosted by Dwight D. Eisenhower High School JROTC located at 7922 Antoine Drive, Houston, TX. The scheduled dates are: 29 July 08 and 05 Aug 08. Classes are scheduled from 8:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. Registration is required and there is no cost for the JMIC Course. National Matches Air Gun Events. This year the air pistol and rifle events that are a traditional part of the National Matches have moved to the new CMP Camp Perry Competition Center with its electronic target equipped 80-point 10 meter range. The official program listing the events that will be offered this year together with the schedule is now posted at http://www.odcmp.com/NM/AirEvents.htm. There will be 30-shot re-entry air pistol matches during the pistol phase plus a 60-shot squadded championship match on Sunday, 13 July. There will be 30-shot re-entry air rifle matches plus a 60-shot air rifle championship that can be fired any evening during the smallbore phase of the Nationals. During the CMP and NRA highpower matches, air rifle shooters will be able to fire 20-shot re-entry standing matches on a 200 yard SR target reduced for air rifle firing at 10 meters. A 20-shot sporter air rifle standing event to be fired on the reduced SR target will be offered throughout the National Matches. Shooters who are coming to the National Matches are encouraged to bring their air pistols or rifles along so they can also shoot in these matches. Air gun shooters who are not entered in the National Matches pistol, smallbore or highpower events may want to plan a trip to Camp Perry just to shoot in these air gun events.
