2008 Eastern CMP Games Matches—More Entries and Great Shooting - The 2008 edition of the Eastern CMP Games saw a big jump in event entries and, with a break in the weather, some great scores. The first East­ern CMP Games Matches took place in May 2007 at Camp Butner, North Carolina. There were 267 event entries in those matches. This year the final event entry count ended at 398, a significant increase over the first year’s participation.

CMP Awards $100,000 in Scholarships: 2008-2009 CMP ROTC Scholarship Recipients Announced - The pri­mary mission of the Civilian Marksmanship Program is to promote marks­manship programs across the country, with a special emphasis on youth. The CMP provides multiple training opportunities throughout the year for juniors and their coaches including three-position air rifle camps and clinics, JROTC instructor courses and highpower clinics. CMP also supports major junior events like the JROTC Nationals and Junior Olympics. In addition to training and match support, each year CMP makes a substantial financial contribution to junior shooters entering or attending college with the CMP ROTC Scholarship Program. The program awards $1000 scholarships to 100 JROTC and ROTC cadets who plan to participate in both ROTC and compete on a rifle team while in college.

Bushmaster Presents $10,000 for Junior Shooter Support - Bushmaster Firearms of Wind­ham, Maine, recently made a $10,000.00 contribution to the CMP National Matches Junior Highpower Support Fund. A formal check presentation ceremony took place at Camp Butner, North Carolina on 7 May during the Eastern CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches that took place at Camp Butner on 3 to 11 May. The check represents the proceeds from a special series of Bush­master DCM-XR competition rifles that were produced to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the National Matches coming to Camp Perry, Ohio.

Steve Reiter, Sr. awarded Presi­dent’s Pistol Letter. On May 3rd at the Arizona State Rifle and Pistol Associa­tion’s 99th Annual Dinner, the ASRPA President, Mr. Landis Aden, presented Steve Rieter, Sr. with a signed letter from President Bush for winning the President's Pistol Match in 2007. During the 2007 Na­tional Trophy Pistol Matches, Mr. Reiter also won other National Trophies that


included the Silver Bowl Trophy, Senior Pistol Trophy and Anheuser Busch Trophy. Mr. Reiter previously won the President’s Pistol Match in 2000. He was also a firing member of the Arizona State Rifle & Pistol Association team that competed in the National Trophy Pistol Team Match and won the Oglethorpe Trophy as the top civilian service pistol team in the country. Watch Shooting on Television. ISSF-TV offers shooting sports enthusiasts who want to see the best shooters in the world in the Olympic shooting disciplines in action an opportunity to watch live telecasts or video recordings of World Cup competitions. To watch these shooting telecasts, open the ISSF-TV website at http://www.issf.tv/. You can then select from recorded events that are summarized on the ISSF-TV home page or use the TV Program schedule to learn when the next live streaming broadcast is scheduled. The International Olympic Committee recognizes the ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) as the world governing body of shooting. The ISSF is conducting eight 2008 World Cup competitions fea­turing the 15 rifle, pistol and shotgun events that will be contested in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. USA Shooting, the U. S. governing body for Olympic shooting, regularly enters competitors in all ISSF World Cups. This week, from 17 to 21 May, World Cup competition in rifle and pistol is taking place at Munich, Germany. Recordings of ISSF-TV telecasts made last week during the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Kerrville, Texas are still available for viewing.

1SG Michael Jurczak, Army JROTC JMIC Master Instructor, will host a JMIC Course (Junior Marksmanship Instructor Course) in conjunction with the summer rifle camp during the week of 14-18 July 08. The JMIC Course will be hosted by Trevor G. Browne High School, 7402 W. Catalina Drive, Phoenix, AZ 85033. The class will be held in the JROTC room of the high school. The CMP is offering Travel Grants to Junior Service Rifle shooters attending the 2008 Eastern U.S. Junior Highpower Clinic and Championship. The clinic will take place 22-27 June at Camp Butner, North Carolina, and offers a full week of clinics, coaching and com­petition for junior service rifle competitors. Juniors attending the clinic will have the opportunity to expand their current level of experience and exper­tise as well as build friendships and camaraderie within the sport. CMP Master Instructor Courses to train CMP GSM (As-Issued Military Rifle: Garand-Springfield-Military Rifle) Master Instructors are now open for registration. The courses will be conducted on 21-22 June, Camp Perry, Ohio; 10-11 Oct, Phoenix, Arizona; and 8-9 Nov, Anniston, Ala­bama. These workshops are open to all experienced rifle marksmanship instructors and shooters who would like to receive advanced training and be certified as “Master Instructors” to teach CMP-sanctioned Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military Rifle Clinics at their home clubs.
