Theresa DeWitt Captures Gold, Joetta Dement Claims Bronze in Women's Trap at World Cup USA



KERRVILLE, Texas (May 9, 2008) - The Women's Trap final was held at the
2008 ISSF World Cup USA for Shotgun today with U.S. shooters Sgt. 1st Class Theresa E. DeWitt and Sgt. 1st Class Joetta Dement, both of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit of Fort Benning, Ga., claiming the Gold and Bronze medals respectively. Russia's Irina Laricheva took home the Silver.



DeWitt, a 1996 Olympian, and Silver Medalist from the 2006 World Cup USA in Kerrville finished in first place with a total score of 94 targets to claim the Gold Medal. Laricheva, a 2004 Olympian, and Dement were tied at the conclusion of the finals at 91 targets to force a shoot-off.
Laricheva hit her first target in the shoot-off, while Dement missed her first target, earning Laricheva the Silver, while Dement took the Bronze. Australia's Stacy Roiall finished in fourth place with 90 targets, while Russia's Elena Tkach, a 2000 Olympian, took fifth place with 89 targets. Corey Cogdell (Eagle River, Alaska), a 2008 U.S.
Olympic team member finished in sixth place with 88 targets.



After the first 50 targets in Men's Trap, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Diamond from Australia is holding first place with a perfect score of 50 targets. Dominic Grazioli (San Antonio, Texas), a 2008 U.S.
Olympic Team member, is tied for second place with Italy's Mauro De Filippis and Great Britain's Carl Exton at 49 targets. There is a seven-way tie for third place between Italy's Rodolfo Vigano, Matti Nummela (Finland), Francesco Amici (San Marino), Jean Pierre Cardenas Brol (Guatemala), Massimiliano Mola (Italy), Jesus Serrano (Spain) and Alexey Alipov (Russia)



Approximately 180 shotgun shooters from 37 different nations are participating in the 2008 ISSF World Cup USA at the Hill Country Shooting Sports Center in Kerrville, Texas. Twenty-three athletes from the U.S. are competing for a World Cup title, as well as 35 additional
U.S. athletes participating out of competition. World Cup USA
Competition concludes tomorrow with the Men's Trap Final.
