Gun transport laws

Hi All,
Does anyone know if there is a site giving the gun transport laws for each state? I know here in VT, driving with the gun on the passenger's seat is allowed. In Massachusetts, the gun (in this case a rifle) must be in a locked case not accessible to the driver and the ammo must be locked and not accessible to the driver or in the same area of the car as the gun. I travel a bit to shooting events and want to avoid any unneeded legal hassles. I could take the MA approach for all but its a bit of a PIA if I'm just passing through. My rifle is transported in a locked case and its the ammo part that's a headache. Extra keys, packing the car, extra locking boxes, etc. Thanks, Kevin
