Eastern Region JROTC Championship
Today and tomorrow, 326 high school JROTC Cadets are competing in the 2008 Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and Navy JROTC Eastern Region Championships at Fort Benning, Georgia. The JROTC Eastern Region comprises a triangle-shaped area from Florida to Maine to Illinois. The competition is a three-position air rifle event where individual and team championship titles will be awarded for Cadets representing each of the four services. The top teams and individuals will advance to the National JROTC Championship at Fort Benning in late March. If you live in the Eastern part of the U. S., a school from your hometown or state may be competing in this important championship.
The CMP is conducting this competition at the Army Marksmanship Unit Ranges at Fort Benning, Georgia. The competition began at 8:00 AM this morning when the first relay of competitors went on the line. Four relays will complete firing today and two additional relays will fire tomorrow. Scores from those six relays will establish final team rankings. Individual titles will be decided on Saturday afternoon when individual sporter and precision class finals are staged for the top eight shooters from each service.
