If you want to participate in center fire matches according the ISSF rules .45 is to big, maximum is 9 mm. And 9mm Luger is considered to powerful and not acurate enough to face the .38 or .32 Wadcutters. Most of the guns used in ISSF center fire today are .32 S&W Long.

If you are talking about NRA Conventional pistol matches (900, 1800, 2700) the 745 would be fine for centerfire and .45 stages.

You may be able tohave a better trigger done for a 1911 type .45 though.

How much is cheap for the 745?

The S&W 745, 845, and 945 are all accurate guns. 945s especially, as the Performance Center knows what they are doing.

On the other hand, the 1911s have a bigger support network.

I've got both.
