I may be spending 4-6 months in China on business. Are there restrictions on bringing an air pistol? Would I have any oportunities to shoot? I would be in the Tianjin area.
Thank you,
Steve Turner

My experience in China is that you pretty much need a permit for everything you do. You should call the Chinese consulate or Embassy and ask them... Just be prepare for a lot of bureaucracy and headaches.

See if you can hook up with someone in the Chinese Shooting Federation they May be able to give you some contacts to local clubs. I've done this when I travel and it works great (but I've never been to China so). I've met lots of nice peple and shot in some very nice ranges.

DO NOT BRING AN AIRGUN WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!
its classified as a firearm over there
I don't think they even allow air soft
they have the best olympic team, they are Eley's biggest customer and probably Steyr too, they have teams in high schools and universities and gov't agencies all over the country, but I know one guy who spent 4 years there and never found one. (he did talk the local cops into letting him shoot with them once)
I have some contacts that have contacts there but none that speak english.

admittedly over a decade ago, but standing on Coal Hill in Bejing in winter (when the trees are bare) revealed multitudes of 25m ranges; many public buildings had a 50m range in the foyer (after working hours shooting)

There is a phone number for Tianjin shooting club(Tianjin shooting Team): (86)-22-23980124
Don't think about bring any firearm (including air pistol) to China, especially before 2008 Olympic. Even rifles and pistols in Museum need to be taken care of. After 2008 they may have some new policy for allowing more shooting.
