Entries Open for 2007 Western CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches - The 2007 Western CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches will be held at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility near Phoenix, Arizona on 20-28 October. This announce­ment reflects the fact that Creedmoor Sports Inc. and the CMP recently made a decision to move these fast-growing competitions from Camp Pendleton, California to the Arizona fa­cility.

U.S. Army Junior Air Rifle Cham­pionships - On 8-11 August 2007, many of the country’s best junior air rifle shooters gath­ered at Fort Benning, Georgia for the first an­nual U.S. Army Junior Air Rifle Championship. The Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) hosted the event at its Pool Range Complex.

What Sight Picture Is Best For You? - By SSG Tobie Tomlinson, USAMU Service Rifle Team Member - Which is cor­rect? There are a myriad of sight picture op­tions that shooters have used to great effect over the years. The sight picture that allows you to consistently shoot the smallest group, with a minimal shift in zeros, is the correct one. In the next few paragraphs we will ex­plore a few of the more commonly used sight picture options. Remember, for any shooter to be successful, consistent sight picture must be complemented by front sight focus and sight alignment.

“M1 for Vets” Camp Perry 2007 - The “M1 for Vets” project concluded another successful trip to Camp Perry, Ohio. Fifteen fine young veterans participated in the M1 Carbine, Springfield, and M1 Garand Matches. Many medals were won, and some excellent marksmanship skills were exhibited during the three days of competition.

2007 American Legion National Championship - USA SHOOTING RANGE, COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Noel Maxwell, a thirteen year-old female shooter from Bowling Green, Kentucky performed un­der intense pressure in the final shoot-off to capture the sporter crown at the 17th annual American Legion Junior Air Rifle National Championship, August 9-11. One record was broken as thirty junior air rifle competitors met at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Sign up now for Garand Clinic Master Instructor Course at Anniston, Alabama. A Garand-Springfield-Military Ri­fle Master Instructor Course is being offered at CMP South in Anniston, Alabama on 15-16 September 2007. The course is for anyone who wants training in how to conduct Garand or other rifle clinics at their home clubs or ranges. The course covers how to teach gun safety, safe range proce­dures, basic firing positions and shot technique, the Garand Match course of fire and how to fire it plus additional competitor responsibilities like scor­ing and pulling targets. The course fee is $35.00. That covers student ma­terials including an instructor notebook and CD to use in teaching clinics and lunches both days. Students are responsible for their own housing. You will find an Applica­tion Form to download, complete and send in at the end of the program or you can download it at http://www.odcmp.com/Competitions/GSMClinicApp.pdf. If you are interested in becoming better prepared to help new shooters get started in highpower rifle shooting, this course will help you do that.



The Howell Gun Club will hold a CMP Rimfire Sporter Match in Howell, Michigan on September 15. The Two Rivers Rifle Club will hold a Rimfire Sporter Match in Front Royal, Virginia on October 21. Registration begins at 11 a.m. Relays will start at noon and 2:30 p.m. Match fees are $20 for one re­lay and $30 if you shoot in both relays, for people 18 and under it's $10 for one relay and $15 for two. The 13th annual MBA Rifle Classic will be held in Nashville, Ten­nessee over the weekend of 19-21 October. The Classic was initiated in 1995 to provide a premier season opening competition for high school rifle teams. There will be a JROTC Marksmanship Instructor Course (JMIC) held on 15 September at the Hopewell American Legion Post 146 in Hopewell, Virginia. The JMIC course is open to any JROTC Instruc­tor who needs to become JMIC qualified or JROTC Marksmanship Coaches and Instructors who are qualified but want refresher training. Huskers hire Morgan Hicks as Rifle Coach - LINCOLN; Mor­gan Hicks has been hired as the head coach for the University of Ne­braska's nationally competitive rifle program. A 2004 U.S. Olympian as a competitor, Hicks comes to Nebraska after coaching Murray State to a top-10 NCAA finish in 2007. Hicks was also a member of the CMP Three-Position Air Rifle Summer Camp staff in 2005. Hicks began her tenure at Nebraska on July 1.
