CMP Announces 2007 Achievement Medal Scores - One of the CMP’s most popular award programs allows shooters in sanctioned CMP Games competitions to earn gold, silver and bronze Achievement Medals or Pins. CMP Games events are recreation-oriented shooting competitions that include the John C. Garand, Springfield, Vintage Military Rifle, M1 Carbine and Rimfire Sporter Matches. CMP Achievement Medals and Pins are awarded to all shooters who equal or exceed established Achievement Medal Scores. Score levels for these awards are established with the intent of enabling approximately 40% of all competitors to receive awards. New Achievement Medal Scores for 2007 have now been established and are shown in the chart.

CMP ROTC Scholarship Recipient Tops Military Cadets in All-Army Matches - Each year, the CMP awards 100 $1000 scholarships to college ROTC cadets based on their leadership, academic and marksmanship accomplishments. Cadet Michael Mann, who is now a senior in Army ROTC at Virginia Tech has been a CMP ROTC Scholarship recipient each of the four years he has been in college. One week ago, Cadet Mann was one of two dozen military cadets who competed alongside 160 Active, Reserve and National Guard soldiers in the 2007 U. S. Army Small Arms Championship. In these service rifle and pistol competitions that took place at Fort Benning, Georgia on 5-12 March, Mann finished as the overall high scoring cadet. He also won a “leg” that counts towards being awarded the prestigious Distinguished Rifleman Badge.

This is the day when the command “Load and Be Ready” might just as well be “Gentlemen, Start Your Engines.” It is a Coach, a Captain, six shooters, eight targets, four yard lines, 50 seconds at each yard line, 384 bullets and no alibis!! Once your team is called to the line, there is no looking back, so you had better be ready when you get there. Here’s how to prepare yourself, your equipment and your teammates in order to make sure that you show up with your “A” game for this “spray and pray” event. First, a review is in order to cover all that the Infantry Trophy Team Match involves.

The CMP is pleased to release the 2007 Centennial National Trophy Rifle and Pistol Match logo. The logo features the “Champion Shooters” of the 2006 National Matches. They are SFC Lance Dement, USA, President’s Rifle Match winner, SPC Brandon Green, USA, National Trophy Individual Rifle Match winner, SSG James Henderson, USAR, President’s Pistol Match winner, SSG Adam Sokolowski, USA, National Trophy Individual Pistol Match winner and Chad Cleland, National Rimfire Sporter T-Class Match winner. Official match programs and on-line registration for the 2007 National Rifle and Pistol Matches, CMP Games Events, National Rimfire Match and Small Arms Firing Schools will be posted next week.


On-line Registration Now Open for the First Eastern CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches - The Inaugural Eastern CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches, which will take place at Camp Butner, North Carolina, on 5-13 May 2007, offer an exciting nine-day schedule of training and competition activities. All shooters, especially shooters who live in the eastern and southeastern parts of the U. S., are encouraged to make plans to attend the first east coast version of the Western Creedmoor Cup and CMP Games Matches.


The matches will be at Camp Butner, North Carolina, a National Guard installation north of Durham, North Carolina. The North State Shooting Club, whose home range is at Camp Butner, will host the Matches. Creedmoor Sports Inc. will sponsor the Creedmoor Cup Matches and the CMP will sponsor the CMP Games Matches. The CMP Affiliated Club Purchase Program now limits affiliated clubs to purchasing a maximum of eight rifles per club, per model rifle, per calendar year. This is effective immediately. If a club requests to purchase more than eight of any model in a calendar year, they must submit the request in writing to Dana Bacak-Lynd at dbacak@odcmp.com. The CMP allows CMP Affiliated Clubs to purchase government surplus rifles at a 10% discount for use in their club activities. Clubs may not use this discount to purchase rifles for individual club members.



Black Hills Ammunition orders cancelled. The CMP recently learned from Black Hills Ammunition that their production capacity is being used to fill large government orders and that delivery times for CMP orders will be over one year. Because of that, CMP has cancelled all outstanding orders and is processing refunds. No additional orders will be placed with Black Hills until the current situation is over and we are assured of timely delivery of customer orders.



The CMP Master Instructor Training Workshop for CMP Garand-Springfield-Military Rifle Clinics for April has a few openings. The course will be held 21-22 April at Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio. This workshop is open to all experienced rifle marksmanship instructors and shooters who would like to receive advanced training and be certified as “Master Instructors” to teach CMP-sanctioned Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military Rifle Clinics. USAMU Smallbore/Air Rifle Summer Camp. The United States Army Marksmanship Unit will once again host a Junior Rifle Camp this summer. The dates are 13-17 August 2007 at Fort Benning, GA. This junior shooting camp is open at shooters ages 12-20 with a cost of $35 per shooter. An article titled Carbine Shooting With Accuracy, submitted by an Anonymous Author, was recently posted on the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/Coaching/CarbineNotes.pdf. With an M1 Carbine Match now part of the National Matches and the CMP set to soon start selling a large quantity of government surplus Carbines, finding ways to obtain improved accuracy from Carbines will become a popular quest among Carbine owners. This article is comprehensive and detailed; it presents lots of tested tips on how to get better target results from Carbines. Carbine owners who intend to use their Carbines in Carbine Matches are cautioned that Carbines that are to be used in CMP-sanctioned competitions must be kept in "as-issued" condition, with standard parts that have standard dimensions.



The Reading Rifle and Revolver Club Inc., in Reading, MA, will hold a Junior High-Power Rifle Two Day Clinic on Sunday, April 22nd and Sunday, April 29th. The clinic will involve both classroom and hands on instruction on the range. All instruction will be preformed by certified NRA Instructors and experienced highpower shooters. There will be a one to one ratio of students to instructors on the line while shooting. Students will shoot at a distance of 200 yards only. The cost is $30.00 per person. AR-15 rifles, equipment and ammo will be provided. Lunch (pizza), drinks and snacks will be served on the line. Besides the more than 100 trophies, plaques, medals and certificates that were awarded to the Army's top combat shooters in the All-Army Small Arms Championships, each Soldier left with something even more valuable - advanced marksmanship training. All the competitors in the All-Army Championships received advanced marksmanship instruction and training materials to conduct Train-the-Trainer clinics on return to their home station. World Cup USA To Welcome 65 Nations, Over 650 Athletes To Ft. Benning, Ga., March 31 – April 8, 2007. The first rifle/pistol International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup of the season will be hosted by USA Shooting March 31 – April 8, 2007, in Ft. Benning, Ga. To date, 650 athletes from 65 nations have registered to compete in 10 events, to mark the largest shooting World Cup ever held on U.S. soil. The best-of-the-best travel to World Cup competitions throughout the season, bringing the top finishers to the World Cup Finals later in the season. World Cup USA will feature Olympic medalists, international record holders and the top shooters from each participating nation.



Gastonia Police Department’s 1st Annual Sniper Team Competition - Fifteen public safety sniper teams will compete for top honors in Gastonia Police Department’s First Annual Police Sniper Team Competition April 5-7 at the Gastonia Police Firearms & Training Center in Gastonia, North Carolina. The Douglas Ridge Rifle Club in Estacada, Oregon, is hosting the 2007 Pacific Northwest International F-Class Championships on 8-11 August. The 2007 Three-Position Summer Camps still has openings in the following camps: El Paso, Texas; Reno, Nevada; Millersville, Pennsylvania; and the Fort Benning, Georgia Standing Camp. Camp details and application forms are posted on the web at http://www.odcmp.com/Programs/camp.htm. The CMP Three-Position Summer Camps are very popular with four 2007 camps already filled. The Standing Position Camp open to 50 campers just like a regular week long camp and athletes do not have to be invited to attend. However, keep in mind before signing up that this intensive camp is for experienced athletes. Former CMP camp experience is strongly suggested for that camp because the material taught in class builds on lessons learned at previous CMP Camps. As the name of the camp states, this is a standing position camp and the focus will be on the collegiate 60-shot standing course of fire for air rifle.
