Army Marksmanship Unit, announces the inauguration of a new national junior air rifle championship that is sponsored by the U. S. Army. The Army is actually taking over the sponsorship of a postal and national championship program that previously was sponsored by the National Guard Bureau. The program begins with a State Championship Postal competition that offers three-position air rifle sporter and precision standing events for school-age junior shooters. The match is open to teams and individuals representing any junior shooting team or club that wishes to enter. The culmination of the 2007 program will be a National Championship competition that will take place at the Army Marksmanship Unit ranges at Fort Benning in August.

No-Wind Zero and Marking Your Sights - By SFC Jason
St. John, USAMU Service Rifle Team Member - There is no question about it, to consistently hit the X-ring you need accurate elevation and windage zeros. These zeros change as you increase distance, and may possibly change as you gain experience. These changes are apparent in a well kept Data Book. To calculate your zeros, starting points are needed. You can establish starting points for your service rifle sights by marking them to give you a reference point for calculating your zeros.

First JROTC Postal Scores Available. The first sets of Army, Marine Corps and Navy JROTC Postal targets have arrived at CMP Headquarters and have been scored and posted. These targets are the first 10-bull paper targets ever to be scored electronically.
All targets for the 2006-07 JROTC postals are being scored with electronic Visual Image Scoring (VIS) technology that analyzes and scores scanned images of the targets. The scores of all targets scored so far have been posted in results lists on the CMP website. If your JROTC unit has returned fired targets, you can check your results by going to http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/matchRes ... nation=AIR. From there, select the match you wish to view. As an added feature this year, which is made possible by the new electronic scoring system, instructors and competitors may download a one-page *.pdf file that shows the scores and shot groups exactly as they were fired and scored. The results print-out also shows the score of each shot in tenth-ring values plus the x and y coordinates measured to 1/100th of a millimeter for each shot scored. To activate this feature, open an individual results list and then click on the total score for that shooter (shown in red). JROTC instructors with questions about their results or who have ordered targets that were not received should call the CMP staff at 419-635-2141, ext. 1113.
