2006 CMP Three-Position Air Rifle Summer Camps - The conclu­sion of the 2006 CMP Three-Position Sum­mer Camp season marks the 10th year for this highly acclaimed program. Over the years this program has benefited countless young shooters across the country and is revered as the premier camp of its kind. This year the schedule included new locations and new programs that carried forward the standards campers and coaches have come to expect.

Pennsylvania Marksmen Do Well in American Legion Air Ri­fle Championships - Two records were broken or tied as 29 junior air rifle competitors met at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs for the 16th an­nual American Legion National Junior Air Rifle Championships 3-5 August 2006.

2006 National Youth Leadership Conference. Junior shooting coaches, instructors, club leaders and parents who are interested in increasing their shooting knowledge, coaching skills and program contacts are encouraged to attend the bi-annual National Youth Shooting Sports Leadership Conference that will take place at Camp Perry, Ohio on 22-24 September. Coach Training Courses Offered at Camp Perry. Two advanced and two basic rifle and pistol coaching courses will be offered in conjunction with the National Youth Leadership Conference. Advanced pistol and rifle coaching courses will be taught on 19-21 September. Basic pistol and rifle coaching courses are available on 20-21 September. Junior leaders and parents who attend one of these courses are encouraged to also register for the Youth Leadership Conference that begins on Friday, at the end of that week. 4th GSM Master Instructor Course Offered at Camp Perry. Individuals and club instructors who are interested in being trained and certified as Garand-Springfield-Military Rifle Master Instructors will have an opportunity to attend both a GSM Master Instructor Course and the National Youth Leadership Conference if they sign up for the GSM Master Course that will be offered at Camp Perry on 20-21 September. Several Junior ROTC Marksmanship Instructor Courses, (JMIC) for JROTC instructors who have not previously attended the course will be held in the month of September. The JMIC course is offered to any JROTC instructor, civilian air rifle coach, volunteer parents or rifle team members desiring more education. The course is 8 hours of instruction with hands-on range time.

A NRA Coach Certification Course will be held at La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, NM on 15-17 September. The course will begin on Friday at 1700 and will be presented by National Coach Development Staff members. The position rifle course would cost at least $150 but it will be sponsored (and subsidized) so your only expenses will be a $20 registration fee and your motel room if needed. Course size is limited so please respond with your name, organization, and phone numbers to Major W.E. Barker at (505) 797-3714, email barkerusmc@aol.com, or fax (505) 857-0177.

The 2007 National Match calendar is posted on the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/NationalMatches.htm. The 2007 National Match Planning Conference will be held in late October. Any updates to the 2007 schedule will be announced via CMP Shooters’ News updates. There will also be a CMP Rules Conference in late October when recommendations for 2007 rules and competition program changes will be discussed. If you have any rule recommendations or questions that you would like to have reviewed during this meeting, please submit them to Christie Sewell at csewell@odcmp.com.



The mission of the CMP State Junior Directors is to provide leadership, resource and program information, coordination, networking, motivation and publicity for junior shooting within his or her state. The CMP would like to welcome four new CMP State Junior Directors:
