Patricia Ann Young(Gauss) passed away peacefully Sunday, 21 May 2006 after a lengthly battle with cancer. She was born April 5, 1937 in Long Beach, California. She graduated from Grangeville High School, Grangeville, Idaho in 1955 as Valedictorian of her class. Upon graduation attended Central Washington University graduating in 1958 with a B.S. and received her M.Ed from Colorado State University in 1964. Later she did doctoral work at University of Illinois. In June 1958 she married Darius Young while he was serving in the USMC. She has taught school in the USA, Canada, Nigeria and Ghana. She has traveled to for work or pleasure in more than 100 countries. Some of her highlights include attending the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea and again in 1992 for the games in Bacelonia, Spain with her husband. Pat has been very active in Ferry County organizations such as Curlew School Community Association, Arts Council,Realms of Avalon, Ferry County Enterprise Committee, volunteer teacher and Golden Nugget Square Dancers. Pat enjoyed making crafts and served as a vendor and manager of Farmers Markets. Prior to coming to Ferry County Pat lived with her family in Alberta, Canada. She is survived her husband Darius Young and sons Joel and Chris and grandaughter Faith. Last fall she traveled to China and Tibet with her husband and then this past January to Guatemala. Even during her last days she deeply appreciated her friends that visited her and wished her well. She has said in her own words that she has had a very full life. Quoting from her will, it is my wish that no services be preformed after my cremation and that my ashes be used to nourish any tree or vegetation that is deemed appropriate.
