Wrapping up the Nationals

RIFLE & PISTOL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

FORT BENNING, Ga. - USA Shooting 's last Olympic events -- men's rapid fire pistol and women's three-position rifle -- wrapped up today at the rifle and pistol ranges on Fort Benning.

Sgt. Keith Sanderson, of the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU), won his second event of the National Championships when he came back from being in second going into the finals to once again finish in front. Sanderson, who was just accepted into the AMU a few months earlier, beat second-place finisher John Bickar by less than a point on the last series to finish with a 1,337.4 and the gold. Staff Sgt. John Ennis, also of the AMU, took third with a 1,332.0, while Cody Maxwell took fourth with a 1,307.7. Maxwell will join Sanderson on the Championships of America's (CAT) Team in this event.

Jamie Beyerle, of the University of Alaska- Fairbanks, took the gold in women's three-position, as well as in women's prone. Beyerle finished witha 1,259.8 in 50m three-position, whereas U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) resident athlete, Emily Caruso, took second finishing with a 1,248.7. Sarah Blakeslee, also a USOTC athlete, finished in third overall with a 1,246.7 and first in the junior women's division. Blakeslee was once again qualified to make the CAT Team, but declined. Instead, Kim Chrostowski and Taylor Beard will be traveling to Puerto Rico, later this year, in this event.
