Tanoue Wins Gold, Quota Spot for U.S. at Munich

MUNICH, Germany - University of Nevada - Reno senior Ryan Tanoue took the gold medal in Munich on June 12, and brought home the quota place in men’s air rifle. Tanoue, originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, was neck-and-neck with the other competitors throughout the qualifying rounds, but kicked it up in the finals with a 102.5 and finished with just a tenth of a point lead on the next competitor. Alin George Moldoveanu, of Romania, finished in second with a 699.4, while Young Sueb Lim, of Korea, took third with a 698.5.
On June 11, in women’s air pistol, Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center resident athlete, Rebecca Snyder, made the finals with a 384. Snyder (Grand Junction, Colo.) finished in sixth after shooting a 98.6, finishing just under three points out of medal contention.
Also on June 11, in women’s air rifle, Emily Caruso, of Fairfield, Conn., put up a 397 in the qualifying round, just missing the finals and finishing in tenth, overall, for the U.S.
