USA Shooting Starts Out Strong at Korea World Cup

Parker Wins Gold, Country Quota with a World Record Performance in Men's Air
Rifle

CHANGWON, Korea - Sgt. 1st Class Jason Parker (Cusseta, Ga.) started the
U.S. out on the right foot, Sunday, as he won the gold medal and country
quota slot with a world record performance in men's air rifle at the Korea
World Cup.

Parker, an international rifle shooter with the United States Army
Marksmanship Unit (USAMU), went into the finals tied for second with a 598,
and hit a tremendous final score of 104.7 to tie the final world record and
catapult himself to the top of the competition at the very first World Cup
of the new quadrennium.

Three-time Olympian Lance Bade (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished with a
bronze medal in men's trap later in the day, hitting a total score of 139.
Bade closed out the qualifying rounds tied for second, but just couldn't get
a handle on the final and hit a 18 out of 25 to finish tied for third. He
then went into a miss-and-out shoot-off with Italy's Massimo Fabbrizi, which
he won with a two for the bronze. Italy's Giovanni Pellielo won the gold
medal in this event with a 144, and Michael Diamond, of Australia, won the
silver with a 142.

Sgt. 1st Class Tom Tamas, also of the USAMU, walked away with a silver medal
in the men's 50m rifle prone event, which ended just earlier today. Tamas
went into the finals in first with a 597, and hit a 101.5 for silver.
Jinseop Han, of Korea, took the gold with a 103.7 final score.
