USAMU to host World Cup USA

FORT BENNING, Ga. - The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit will host the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup USA May 6 to 15. The competition will be conducted by USA Shooting, the national governing body for Olympic shooting sports. More than 60 countries with nearly 400 shooters are expected to compete in these international rifle and pistol events.

Every year, qualified shooters of each of the Olympic shooting disciplines participate in four World Cups. Not only can shooters win medals and set world records at these World Cups, but they can also win quota slots for their countries to compete in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

World Cups for 2005 include: Changwon, Korea, April 6 to 17, for Shotgun, International Pistol and International Rifle; Fort Benning, Ga., May 6 to 15, for International Rifle and Pistol; Rome, Italy, May 16 to 23 for Shotgun; Munich, Germany, June 6 to 13, for Rifle and Pistol; Milan, Italy, June 13 to 20 for Rifle and Pistol; Belgrade, Yugoslavia, July 14 to 21 for Shotgun; and Americana, Brazil, Aug. 5 to 14 for Shotgun.

Approximately, 62 countries with more than 400 shooters are expected to compete in the World Cup USA including: Albania, Argentina, Aruba, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Barbados, Belarus, Bermuda, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Greece, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Lithuania, Macedonia, Mexico, Moldova, Monaco, Mongolia, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Trinidad, Ukraine, United States, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Virgin Islands and Yugoslavia.

World Cup USA kicks off May 6

FORT BENNING, Ga. - Hundreds of world-class shooters from more than 60 countries will start arriving on post May 6 as the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup USA kicks off. The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit will host the World Cup USA May 6 to 15 and the competition will be conducted by USA Shooting, the U.S. Olympic governing body for the Olympic shooting sports and those governed by the ISSF.

4 p.m. - Technical meeting
5 p.m. - Barbecue
May 9

9 a.m. to noon - Women’s Air Rifle matches at Pool Indoor Range.
9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. - Men’s Free Pistol matches at Pool Outdoor Range.
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Women’s Sport Pistol official training at Phillips Range.
1 p.m. - Women’s Air Rifle final at Pool Indoor Range.
2 p.m. - Women’s Air Rifle award ceremony.
2:30 to 5:15 p.m. - Men’s Free Rifle Prone official training at Pool Outdoor Range.
May 10

9 to 11 a.m. - Men’s Free Pistol matches at Pool Outdoor Range.
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Women’s Sport Pistol matches at Phillips Range.
Noon - Men’s Free Pistol Final at Pool Outdoor Range.
1:30 p.m. - Men’s Free Pistol awards ceremony.
1:30 to 4:30 p.m. - Men’s Free Rifle Prone matches at Pool Outdoor Range.
2 to 4:15 p.m. - Men’s Air Pistol official training at Pool Indoor Range.
4:45 to 6 p.m. - Women’s Sport Rifle official training at Pool Outdoor Range.

9 to 10:15 a.m. - Men’s Free Rifle Prone matches at Pool Outdoor Range.
