Looking for air pistol club in North-Central Indiana

Post by spacepilot »

Hi, I'm an absolute beginner in the shooting sport. I got my IZH-46M a couple weeks ago, and have been shooting in the hallway of my apartment. I'd like to find an air pistol club near me so I can learn from other shooters and have some fun. I live in Lafayette, Indiana. The closest airgun club I have found is the Marion County Fish and Game Association (http://www.indyrange.com/agleague.htm), and they won't be in airgun season until this fall. I wonder if there are clubs that are shooting airguns in the summer, and preferably within an hour's drive from Lafayette. Any information is appreciated. Thank you.

Spacepilot,

Purdue University used to have an airgun program. You might want to check with them. All the air pistol matches I know about in Indiana take place from about October to April of the following year. My club, the Southern Indiana State R&P Club hosts matches during the months mentioned, but we are a long haul from you (maybe 175 miles). William H. Jordan in Greenfield, IN has hosted air gun matches in the past. The Hoosier Hills R & P Club, in Columbus, IN has winter/ spring air gun matches. Join the Indiana State Rifle and Pistol Assn. to keep abreast of the competitive shooting sports in the state. You can find an application at www.isrpa.org

I hope this helps. If I can be of further assistance, don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for the information, Misny. I was aware that there are clubs in Southern Indiana that shoot air guns, but it is not practical for me to drive there regularly. I think my best alternative for now is probably to participate in some postal matches. When school starts, I'll check out Purdue's R&P club and see if they have any 10-meter shooters that I can practice with (I think they mostly shoot small-bore rifles, not many pistols and air guns). Hopefully, when the winter months come, I can shoot in some local matches and meet more fellow shooters.
