CMP Hosts 2nd Annual Camp Perry Junior Open - For the second year in a row CMP’s newest three-position air rifle event, the Camp Perry Junior Open, was filled to capacity with juniors from different parts of the country. Travelers from as far away as Auburn, Alabama and Waukegan, Illinois made the trek to Camp Perry, Ohio, the home of CMP North, for the sanctioned precision and sporter air rifle match.

8th Annual SMGC/CMP "SNOW SHOOT" Vintage Rifle Match - The cold snowy weather didn't stop the diehard shooters from enjoying the friendly competition and supporting the M1 for Vets Program, which provides M1 Garand Rifles to disabled vets of the War in Iraq and Afghanistan. In all a total of 52 shooters participated in rifle match, along with 20 pistol shooters and 15 period dressed competitors, and over $1000 dollars was raised for the M1 for Vets Program.

The CMP’s Squad Designated Program continues to be successful as over 90 SDM Master Instructors work with USAMU Mobile Training Teams conducting ‘Train-the-Trainer’ courses throughout the United States. The CMP extends its gratitude to these Master Instructors for their time and expertise. The following article highlights one Master Instructor’s experience while training a group of soldiers.
Buckeye Trains Army Rangers in Return to Fort Benning - Ohio State student and Varsity Rifle Team Captain Sam Ohlinger recently had the honor of serving his country over the winter break. Sam shared his knowledge and expertise in marksmanship with members of the Army’s 3rd Ranger Battalion, Delta Company. Sam worked alongside the Army’s best shooters from the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU), as well as other civilian instructors, to help the members of Delta Company complete the Squad Designated Marksman course. USAMU Soldier Named Soldier of the Year - Sgt. 1st Class Grant L. Singley, a service rifle shooter with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, has been selected as the Military Marksmanship Association Soldier of the Year for 2007. MMA president, COL Robert I. Hoidahl Jr. (Ret.), made the announcement at the MMA Annual Membership Meeting at the Pool International Shooting Complex. Hoidahl presented the Soldier of the Year Award to Singley - a .45-caliber pistol donated by the Smith and Wesson Corporation. SFC Singley was the high overall competitor during the 2007 National Trophy Rifle Matches and awarded the Mountain Man Trophy. He also was awarded the Pershing, Rattlesnake, U.S. Armed Forces Command, Association of the US Army, 25th Infantry Division Trophies and was a member of both the winning USAMU National Trophy and National Trophy Infantry Trophy Teams.
Arizona Distinguished Shooters List. Arizona resident German Salazar has completed and has now posted an impressive document listing all of the Distinguished Shooters who have lived in Arizona. The list includes holders of the U. S. International Distinguished Shooters, Distinguished Rifleman and Distinguished Pistol Shot Badges as well as the holders of some NRA Distinguished Badges. The list is now posted on Salazar's club web site at www.desertsharpshooters.com. The CMP congratulates the shooters of Arizona on the compilation of this list and encourages shooters in other states to consider making their own lists of shooters who have earned these prestigious badges.
The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) seeks a talented and enthusiastic individual to work part-time in its Port Clinton, Ohio, office as a Writer/Editor. The candidate will be responsible for reporting short articles on CMP events and editing/proofreading written materials for our publications and on-line magazine. Strong writing and editing skills are required along with excellent interpersonal skills. Travel to CMP events is required and reimbursed by the CMP. A Journalism Major is preferred, with one to three years of experience. This position may be used as a College Internship if your College or Journalism Department has a mechanism to grant academic credit for internship work experience. CMP Eastern Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches - The second annual CMP Eastern Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches are set to take place at Camp Butner, NC on 3-11 May 2008. The event features both clinics and competitions and is hosted by North State Shooting Club (NSSC) and the North Carolina Army National Guard at Camp Butner, NC. The 2008 CMP Junior Air Rifle Camp schedule and application forms are posted on the web! The dates for the highly popular summer camps were posted in early January, and applications are already coming in from across the country. Three camps are already full with waiting lists. If you would like to attend a CMP camp this summer, it is important to submit your applications as soon as possible. U. S. Army Junior Open Air Rifle Championship Entries Open. Junior shooting clubs and JROTC units have until 22 February to make entries and order targets for the State Championship Postal Phase of this annual junior air rifle competition and until 15 March to fire and return their targets. Entry fees are just $5 per shooter and there are no additional team fees. There are team and individual events for three-position sporter air rifle and standing position precision air rifle.
Awards will be given in every state with three or more teams or individuals. In 2007, 240 teams and over 1,700 individual juniors participated in the State Championship Postal Phase that also determined the teams that were invited to the shoulder-to-shoulder National Championship at Fort Benning in August.
