Smallbore rifle for beginning shooter (full size)

Are the kimber rifles offered by the CMP any good for a beginner in smallbore competition?

Not smallbore, but the Pyramyd Blog of Tom Gaylord has a brief review of options for beginner or club pellet rifles.

The kimbers (82G) are quite heavy .... they would be tough for a youngster

I've had good luck with the Izhmash CM-2's for the younger shooters ... light and plenty accurate to see if they like the sport...

The answer to your question really depends on the age and size of the shooter. You say full size. To me this means you should look for an anschutz standard rifle or better for a starter.

I would prefer a used Anshutz but the Kimber is an OK 50 foot rifle. It doesn't weight more than a free rifle.
It's sights don't work the best for 100 yards.
A lot of clubs use them. So it's up to you.

I would suggest a serious begginner who wants to compete to barrow a rifle, save up your money to buy a better rifle. The better rifle will resale better too.

The Kimber would be a good rifle for a high power shooter who wants to practice during the winter.
