FORT BENNING, Ga. - After a long World Cup match in Sydney, Australia, the U.S. squad is ready to travel to World Cup Bangkok with three new medals in tow.

On the final day of shots at the International Shooting Sport Federation Sydney World Cup May 2, Sgt. 1st Class Thomas A. Tamas of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit shot for the Silver Medal in front of a large local crowd. Playing a tight game of cat and mouse with French shooter Valerian Sauveplane, Tamas, a native of Columbus, Ga., was able to take the second step on the podium by just 1/10th of a point.

Earlier in the Men's Three-Position Free Rifle competition, Olympic Silver Medalist Maj. Michael E. Anti of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit led the entire international field from the first to the last shot to firmly secure the Gold Medal. Joining him on the podium was Olympic champion Matt Emmons who finished with the Bronze.

Together, the trio brought the U.S. medal count to a dozen on the 2007 World Cup Tour. The U.S. Rifle Team is now even with the U.S.
Shotgun Team for total medals won. To date, rifle has snagged two each of the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, while the shotgun squad has earned three Gold, one Silver and two Bronze. Shotgun has also secured an Olympic Quota Slot on their World Cup journeys.
