The CMP Releases 2007 Competition Rules - The 2007 11th Edition of the CMP Competition Rules is posted on the CMP web site. This year’s version is largely unchanged from the 2006 10th edition. The new rules provide a modification to the National Matches’ President’s Rifle Match that will have the top 20 competitors in the traditional 30-shot course of fire shoot an additional 10 shots in a 600-yard final stage to determine the match winner. This change promises a spectacular ending to one of the National Matches’ most important events and it should appeal both to spectators at the match and to Internet viewers.

CMP Camp Riflery Program Update - In 2006, the CMP Camp Riflery Program experienced a significant increase in numbers of camp riflery instructors trained and in camps involved in the program. Those numbers promise to go up even more in 2007. The number of Instructor Training Courses (ITCs) completed in 2006 more than doubled over the previous year. With these growing numbers, there is also an increasing awareness among camp professionals of the program and what it offers. In addition, the CMP is making a conscious effort to promote the program to camps located in the western part of the United States.

Many shooters are happy with going to the range, emptying brass, and having some fun. Others, however, are there to win, and have a plan to do just that. Training plans are like fingerprints, every good shooter has them, and they are all unique to the individual. There are an unlimited number of items that can be included in your training plan; some plans are very detailed and complex, while others are more general.

Record Setting Match Set to Music - The Tri-City Three-Position Air Rifle Invitational hosted by the Pharr – San Juan – Alamo High School JROTC Program on 30-31 March 2007 in San Juan, Texas was a first in many ways. For starters, it was the first sanctioned Air Rifle Tournament to be held in the Rio Grande Valley in recorded memory. Second, the event was a huge draw for a variety of competitors from the surrounding area and San Antonio, a total of 38 competitors to be exact. Third, matches are not often conducted to the pulsating rhythms of a rock concert being held in a nearby gymnasium which became the case for the part of the Tri-City Invitational. The concert was scheduled after the match was already on the books. It was held in a different area of the campus; however it was close enough to be heard (and felt) by the members of what became the championship relay.

U. S. Army Junior Air Rifle Competition Results are final and posted on the CMP web site at http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/report_m ... tchID=1845. This year the U. S. Army took over sponsorship of the junior three-position air rifle championship that was previously sponsored by the National Guard Bureau. 1723 individuals and 240 teams participated in this postal air rifle competition. State individual awards were distributed by restricting individual awards to a maximum of two shooters per club or team (to assure that more than one club would receive individual awards). The 10 highest scoring teams that win sporter class state championships (only one per state or At-Large category) and the 10 highest scoring organizations that win precision class state championships (only one per state or At-Large category) are invited to send a four-person team and a team coach to the National Championship. The National Championship will take place 8-11 August 2007 at the U. S. Army Marksmanship Unit, Fort Benning, Georgia. First Eastern CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches – They are less than a month away, but there is still plenty of time to enter the Inaugural Eastern CMP Games and Creedmoor Cup Matches. The exciting nine-day schedule of training and competition activities will take place at Camp Butner, North Carolina, on 5-13 May 2007. All shooters, especially shooters who live in the eastern and southeastern parts of the U. S., are encouraged to make plans to attend the first east coast version of the Western Creedmoor Cup and CMP Games Matches. Medals for the Eastern CMP Games will be awarded each day and prizes totaling over $15,000 will be given away during the Creedmoor Cup Matches.
National JROTC Air Rifle Championship. 96 competitors representing the best 24 JROTC teams plus 36 at-large individuals will meet at Fort Benning, Georgia, later this week (12-14 April) in competitions that will decide the 2007 National JROTC champions. The posting of individual final scores can be watched live on the CMP web site, starting at 4:30 PM on Friday, 13 April, and starting at 3:30 PM on Saturday, 14 April. Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army John McLaurin plans to attend the competition. Navy Rear Admiral James Symonds will be the guest speaker at the Saturday night awards banquet. Linden Sportsmen Club in Linden, Michigan, will hold a John C. Garand Match M1s for Vets Fundraiser on Saturday, 12 May.. The entry fee is $25.00, including lunch. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place based on total scores. Competitors using other service rifles are welcome to shoot, but they will not be eligible for awards. John O’Shea of the Lake Norman Highpower Club near Huntersville, North Carolina started M1s for Vets. The program began in November 2005 with a single rifle being presented to a wounded Marine veteran of the Global War on Terror. Since then this program has given, as a small token of appreciation for their sacrifice, examples “of the greatest battle implement ever devised” to 80 wounded veterans. To help fund this endeavor, $20.00 from each competitor’s match fee and all profits from ammunition sales at the match goes to M1s for Vets. Donations of money and spare parts for M1s will also gladly be accepted. Despite fog, heavy mist and threat of rain, 108 shooters came out to Camp Perry on March 24, 2007 to shoot in the season’s first First Friends of Camp Perry Combat Pistol Shoot.
With temperatures hovering in the upper 50s and low 60s, these avid shooters shot 265 times in 27 relays to engage targets from 7 meters (23 feet) to 31 meters (101 feet) away from the firing points. CMP South Store will be closed 22 July thru 8 August and will reopen for normal business on 9 August. CMP South personnel will be performing inventory, doing general housekeeping, working in the CMP North Store and providing other support for the National Matches.
