Western Region JROTC Championships - The numbers say it all for the Western Region JROTC Championship which took place this past weekend, 1-3 March, at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. The 344 competitors were the largest number ever to fire in a single event at the Olympic Shooting Complex, and it took five relays on a 72 firing point range held over two days to accommodate everyone.

Crossed-Ankle Sitting Position By SFC Grant Singley, USAMU Service Rifle Team Member - There are two primary variations of the sitting position that are used during Highpower competitions. The variations are crossed-ankled and crossed-legged. This article covers the crossed-ankled sitting position. You may want to try the crossed-ankled position if you have excessive pulse in the crossed-legged position and/or your body type prevents you from getting into the crossed-legged position. I would also like to say that all the cool people to include myself shoot the crossed-ankled position. Note: This article is written from a right-handed shooter’s perspective.

The list of Qualifiers for the 2007 JROTC National Championship is now posted on the CMP website at http://www.odcmp.com/3P/2007_jrotc_nationals.htm. Army, Marine Corps and Navy JROTC programs each qualified four JROTC unit teams and six at-large individuals in sporter class and four teams and six at-large individuals in precision class during the recent Eastern and Western Region JROTC Championships at Fort Benning (15-17 February) and at Colorado Springs (1-3 March). The 2007 JROTC Nationals will take place at the U. S. Army Marksmanship Unit 10 meter range at Fort Benning on 12-14 April.

The Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association, along with the Friends of Camp Perry, will hold the First Annual Combat Pistol Pop-up Target Shoot at Camp Perry on Saturday, 24 March. The match will begin at 9 A.M. on the Combat Pistol Range at Camp Perry near Port Clinton, Ohio.

Each relay will shoot 40 rounds at 30 targets using ammunition no larger that .45 ACP. Food and beverages will be available for purchase during the match. Entry fees are $30 for the first relay (includes membership in FOCP) and $10 for each additional relay (FOCP members only) or $15 per relay for non-members of FOCP. Crosman 160 Air Rifles For Sale. The CMP recently received a small quantity of Crosman Model 160 .22 cal. CO2 air rifles (NLU #CROSMAN M160). The first lot of M160 air rifles that are now available for purchase is in new or nearly-new condition, with little or no evidence of use. These air rifles will be shipped with original factory boxes, Crosman receiver sights, original leather slings (1” width) and Crosman manuals. The price for these rifles is $125.00 each plus $16.95 shipping and handling. Use a regular CMP order form (available in CMP catalog or download from http://www.odcmp.com/Forms/1orderform.pdf). The M160 uses two CO2 bulbs to fire .22 cal. pellets at an approximate velocity of 700 fps. The M160 was originally designed in the 1950s and many were purchased on government contracts for use in rifle marksmanship training. The M160 is a bolt action, single shot rifle with a hardwood stock. These air rifles will be shipped from Camp Perry. Customers can also inspect and purchase them at the CMP North Store at Camp Perry.

VIS Air Rifle Targets, a 10 Bull Scanable Target for Three Position Air Rifle, are now available for purchase from the CMP. VIS Targets were used during the JROTC postals and scanned and scored by the Orion program. For more information on the Orion program, visit http://www.odcmp.org/1206/default.asp?page=JROTC_06. The Orion program will be available for purchase in late 2007. To order VIS Targets, download an order form at http://www.odcmp.com/Programs/targets.htm. The cost for these targets is $15.00 per 250 or $60.00 per 1000.

The deadline for the 2007 U. S. Army Junior Air Rifle Championship target order forms has been extended to 12 March. All juniors that comply with the rules for school-age teams or individuals (See Rules 3.1.1 or 3.2.1 in the National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules) are encouraged to enter. The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit is hosting the 2007 Army Rifle and Pistol Championships in conjunction with the U.S. Army Infantry Center from March 2 to 10 and the U.S. Army Long-Range Championships March 11 to 13. The competitions are open to all Soldiers of all Army components, of any rank, with any military occupational specialty, including West Point and college ROTC cadets. The dates for the highly popular summer camps were posted in early January and applications are coming in from across the country. If you intend to attend a CMP camp this summer, it is important to select a camp and submit your applications as soon as possible.

The M1 for Vets program was started in November of 2005 to provide a M1 rifle for our returning vets from the war on terror. This nationwide program has provided many disabled vets the opportunity to own an M1 rifle. The Muskegon Pistol and Rifle Club once again is proud to host a “M1 for Vets” John C. Garand Match on 24 March to help in this cause. Proceeds from this match will go to procure an M1 for this program.
