scope

Post by silent running »

Looking for new scope, does anybody know about unertl's are there any scopes made now that compare, optics, mechanically? What about bushnell 4200's in 8x32? HOw do their optics compare and mechanically. Unertl's have become collectable, another reason why I am looking for something else. I shot 50 and 100 yard matches last year and it was fun. I remember turning my sights thirty some odd clicks, how do the modern scopes hold up under heavy clicking, like the 4200's? Repeatablity and all that. I bring up the unertl because that is what has been around for a while, I want to know how they compare. THe older unertl's compared to the newer ones, the glass must be better, as I would assume with the newer scopes. All I get from salesman is their scope is the best. Thanks for the input.

Try Leupold. They've got a great line of target scopes, Have excellent customer service, and are guaranteed for life. They've just about replaced the Unertyl's, Redfield 3200's and Lyman Targetspots, which have become hard to find, in my group of schuetzen shooters. I've got a Vari-X III 6.5-20x40mm EFR with an adjustable objective that will focus down to 10M., and weighs about half of what my old B&L Balvar 6-24 weighs. I use it for metallic sillhuette, and so am constantly changing both the elevation and the objective settings during the match. Still haven't worn them out, as they're made to be used that way.

I have a 20X Unertle mounted on my Anschutz and it is excellant for prone match's, but I have a couple od Nikon's that are as sharp and clear as the Unertle. The Monarch 6.5-20 with target turrets is on my 22-250 and used for Prairie Dogs out to 400+ yds. The 6-18 Side Focus is on the .222. I wouldn't hesitate to plut either on the Anschutz for 100 yd prone.
