Uptagrafft Wins Gold, Tanoue Takes Bronze at World Cup Final

MUNICH, Germany – U.S. Naval Reservist Eric Uptagrafft (Longmont, Colo.) came back from a two-point deficit to win the gold medal, Friday, in men’s 50m prone rifle at the ISSF World Cup Final in Munich.



Uptagrafft was trailing Sergei Martynov, of Belarus, by two points going into the final. It was then that Uptagrafft turned it up and shot an outstanding final round of 104.4 to finish with a 702.4 and the win. Martynov finished with a perfect 600 score in the qualifying rounds, and a 101.9 in the final, resulting in a 701.9 overall score for the silver. Mario Knoegler, of Austria, rounded out the medalists in this event with a 701.3.



Sgt. First Class Tom Tamas, of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) finished just out of medal contention, with a 697.3 total score and a fifth-place finish overall. The reigning Olympic gold medalist Matt Emmons (Browns Mills, NJ) finished in ninth, missing the finals competition in the tie-breaking procedure.



And, in the last rifle event of this competition, men’s 10m air rifle, 22-year-old Ryan Tanoue (Honolulu, Hawaii) clinched the bronze medal for the U.S, today. Tanoue went into the final tied with teammate Sgt. First Class Jason Parker (Fortson, Ga.) at 594. Tanoue, who just finished his last year of eligibility for the University of Nevada – Reno, then shot a 103.4 in the final, finishing with a 697.4 total score and the bronze. Parker, of the USAMU, was just edged out of a spot on the medal stand, finishing with a 103.0 in the final, and a 697.0 total score.
