Major General Wayt opens the 2005 National Matches - Major Gen­eral Greg Wayt, the Adjutant General of the State of Ohio, was the First Shot Speaker and had the honor of firing the ceremonial first shot to open the 2005 National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio. The traditional First Shot Ceremony at Camp Perry took place on July 11th. Everyone in attendance enjoyed a colorful ceremony that benefited from the better side of Camp Perry weather, with the sun shining and a light breeze coming off of Lake Erie.

Nebraska’s Bures Shatters Record in Junior Olympic Sporter Competition - Jace Bures from tiny Odell, Nebraska (population 345) shattered the most prestigious sporter class national re­cord on the books at the 2005 National Three-Position Air Rifle Champi­onship. By the end of the competition, he not only won the individual sporter championship with a match record 1215 x 1300 score, but he es­tablished three new open national records.

Teams from Nebraska and Washington win 2005 Na­tional Guard Bureau Junior Air Rifle Tournament - The 23rd annual National Guard Bureau Junior Air Rifle Tournament took place at Western Kentucky University, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, 28-30 June 2005. A total of 136 teams (1013 individuals) participated in the State Championship Postal Competition of the tournament which took place in the months of December through March. The 10 highest qualify­ing sporter and 10 highest qualifying precision state champion teams in the State Championship Postal Competition, along with the Palmyra Jun­ior Rifle Team and Homestead 4-H Shooting Club, winners in the 2004 Tournament, were invited to compete in the National Guard Bureau Junior Air Rifle Tournament.

Shooting Reapproved for 2012 Olympics. During its recent meetings in Singapore, the International Olympic Committee voted separately on each of the 28 Summer Olympic Sports to determine whether they would be on the pro­gram for the 2012 Olympic Games, which the IOC decided to award to Lon­don. IOC Secretary General Horst Schreiber reported, “it is with great pleasure and satisfaction we can inform you that our shooting sport has received the re­quired number of votes and therefore will also be organized in the 2012 Games in London.” Great Britain already has a world-class shooting center at Bisley that was previously used to host Commonwealth Games shooting and which will host the 2012 shooting events.



1910 National Matches Photos. The CMP extends a sincere thank you to Larry Conrad of San Mateo, California for providing copies of seven 1910 Na­tional Matches photos showing Camp Perry as it appeared then and the Louisi­ana Team that competed in those matches. The CMP actively seeks documen­tation and photos on the National Matches in order to establish an archive on the history of the National Matches. Anyone who has old National Matches photos or other records who would like to make them available for the CMP National Matches archive should contact the CMP at swood@odcmp.com.



National Match Rifle Raffle. The CMP will again offer National Match competitors and visitors a chance to purchase raffle tickets to win one of four raf­fle rifles. Rifles for the 2005 raffle include an M1D Garand (new in box), an M1 Carbine, a Remington 40x and a Kimber 82. Raffle tickets are $5.00 each and each ticket purchased is eligible to be drawn for any of the four raffle rifles. Tick­ets can be purchased at CMP Headquarters, National Matches In-Processing and the CMP Store. The drawing will be held Saturday, August 6th at the Na­tional Trophy Rifle Matches Festival closing.


National Rimfire Sporter Match. You can still enter the National Rimfire Sporter Match that will take place at Camp Perry, Ohio on Sun­day, 24 July. Entries are running ahead of 2004 numbers, but space remains available. There will be a clinic for new Rimfire Sporter shooters on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 PM. Three or four relays of competitors will fire throughout the day on Sun­day. The day will conclude with the presentation of T-shirts and achievement medals and a barbecue hosted by CMP staff. These matches allow shooters to use commonly owned rimfire sporter rifles in a competition where the focus is on everyone participating and enjoying themselves. National Trophy Rifle Matches. There are only a few entry spaces re­maining in the President’s Rifle and National Trophy Individual Rifle Matches that will take place at Camp Perry on 2-3 August. If you plan to shoot in these matches, you need to enter as soon as possible. The M16 EIC, Springfield and John C. Garand Matches are already filled to range capacity with large waiting lists. When the President’s and NTI matches fill, waitlists will also be established for those matches. With cancellations coming in, many of the waitlisted shooters will move up into the matches, but the best way to assure a spot in the match is to enter now. National Trophy Pistol Results. The National Trophy Pistol Match will take place 17 July at Camp Perry. Be sure to watch results from this match by clicking on http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/report_m ... atchID=804. Scores will be entered as soon as scorecards are received by the CMP.
