walther LP500 windage adjustment

Post by emre-nur »

Hi everyone,

My pistol seems to shoot to the left.
Looking to the manual it says: "correction to the left, turn the screw to counterclockwise"
Is this my option or will it shift my shots further to the left?
Thanks.

turn the screw and see what happens. if you like what results, then you turned it the correct way. if you don't like the results, turn the screw the other way.. five shots ought to tell you what you need to know.

I fluctuate a lot in between the shots. Could be costly :)

The instructions on the sight itself tell you how to use them. The little diagram shows the hit to the right of the bullseye and the direction to turn to fix it. In the case your shot is going the other way, do the opposite.

Watch the rear sight movement as you turn the screw / adjustment. If the rear sight moves to the RIGHT then it will move the bullet impact to the right.

If each click of adjustment is so small as to be hard to see the movement of the rear sight, start counting clicks until it’s obvious which way that sight is moving. Then turn back the same number of clicks and start your adjustment.

Hope that helps.

Most German sights are marked as "Shot Calling", move the sight to move the dot "shot" to centre.

ie. if your shot is to the right of target (shown as dot to the right on rear sight), rotate sight screw clockwise (direction of arrow). Shot moves about one pellet diameter per click.

Page 66 of the manual says 0.8mm (0.031") per click. 5.7 clicks per pellet diameter

I just read the manual and it says "Correction for shots to the left, turn the adjusting screw counter clockwise " the picture in the manual agrees with this. If the shots are landing to the left of centre turn the adjusting screw counter clockwise.

The orientation of the photo of the Walther LP500 rear sight in your web page is confusing.

I feel it would be better that the photo on the left side is rotated 180 degrees.

What a clusterfuck. Turn the damn thing 15 or 20 clicks and shoot a group. That will tell you everything you need to know.

Which knob do you turn? Which way do you turn it? Do I need to shoot a group, or just see if it looks off center after a while? What pellets do you recommend for this exercise? Will this method work with a PCP, or is it a SSP technique only?

I think you need to find another sport. But first get in contact with Conradin, who has fought his way through the existential angst of dealing with the minutiae of these questions and come out the other side a changed man.

Excellent David M !

The South African Army taught me you could solve any problem by the application of brute force and, you're know what, they were right ! :)

Yes, the application of force by brutes should perfectly fit the needs of this thread.
