Another stupid newbie question re NRA 600 Air Pistol

Post by MikeMargolis »

In the 1:45 match, do you use 6 or 12 targets? 5 or 10 shots per?

Even in my 520-530 range, I can see where 10 shots on one paper, some of the 10 get lost in the holes.

Also, do you just reel in your targets when the shots are done and put another one out while the guy in the port next to you is shooting? I come from Bullseye where all targets go out and back together.

Thanks!

Since no one is jumping on this one:

Local matches can do pretty much as they please as long as it's in their match bulletin. I think most go with five shots per bull, but I've seen one, two, three, and ten, also. I've also seen four bull targets with five shots per bull. Just do what the nice man tells you.

For ranges where you reel in the targets with a hand crank or electrically, just do it in the manner that will most irritate and distract your fellow competitors. Moaning while examining your targets is optional.

Hey, bud, you forgot to mention your favorite technique for distracting / annoying fellow competitors. Or have you become so suave and sophisticated that you think it's beneath you to discuss breaking wind?

If you can't score ALL your shots, you need to shoot less on the target. It is no good if you cannot score all your shots.

For practice:
When I started, it was easy to score all 10 shots.
As I got better, I could not score all 10 shots, so I went down to 5 shots per target.
On a really good day, I had trouble scoring all 5 shots, then I went down to 3 shots per target.

My match experience has been:

I shot at a match where we shot two shots per target.
Targets were on manual target carriers.

I shot at a couple matches at the old Prado Olympic range near LA. Those were one shot per target.
Targets were on powered target carriers.

You learned to ignore the moving carriers of the other shooters.

Should be focussed only on the front sight, front sight, front sight…

It doesn't matter; it's not your problem. The match organizers have some poor old woman in a back room scoring your target, not you. If she can't find your shots, she will be humiliated and abused, so what the hell do you care.
