Free Pistol 50m target height
From my searching on this, I read that the target centre should be 75cm from the ground with a variation allowed of +-50cm.
Could someone explain why, while other disciplines (10 and 25m) are 140cm?
Thanks!

Re: Free Pistol 50m target height
Remember that's the height above the level of the firing point floor, not the ground level at the target.
If it was 1.4m then the arm would normally be angled at an exaggerated angle compared to 10m and 25m.

It also used to be the height of the old paper target changer box's, along with two paper targets (scoring on top, sighter on bottom).
As well as being used for rifle prone and three P.

0.75 +/- 0.50m is a compromise to cope with standing, kneeling and prone.
A LONG time ago it was 0.50 +/-0.75m.

"Exaggerated"? I think NOT!David Levene wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 11:31 amRemember that's the height above the level of the firing point floor, not the ground level at the target.

At just under 6 feet tall, my shoulder/arm when horizontal is 1.5m (approx) above the floor so I have to aim down 100mm for 25m targets (centre hold). That same point of aim would be 1.3m above the "floor" at 50m - only 100mm below the centre of a 1.4m high target at 50m - no exaggeration!
For years, I trained for 50m pistol on a range that sloped up to the target line. When they levelled the range, I realised that my target centre had been over 2 metres above my floor!
