Free Pistol Glasses questions
While I love my 10m sessions with my Benelli, I have a great passion for 10m Air pistol which I shoot with a Walther LP400 and do quite well.
I'm planning to add 50m free pistol in the next few months, and understand the next level techniques and approach needed to master it, I think it will be nice path for me.
But to my question.
I shot two eyes open, blinder on the left for many years. And about a year and a half ago removed the blinder altogether and only shoot both eyes open. I find it more comfortable, and it's eliminated a little "sway" I had. It also improved my scores and consistency.
Of course it will be a case of "just try it", but am I foolish to assume I can shoot this way with 50m Free pistol? I do own a great set of Varga shooting glasses, with pin hole, lens, blinder, and iris accessories, but does anyone shoot free pistol both eyes open? Is there anything about the sport that would require the need for delving into the world of shooting glasses?
Sorry if it sounds like a daft question.

Re: Free Pistol Glasses questions
The most important thing is whatever works for you. If you can shoot air pistol well with both eyes open and no additional correction, then there's no reason to expect a problem with free pistol.
There are a couple of additional considerations for free pistol & glasses:
1) You will most likely be shooting outdoors. That means varying light conditions, and the swappable filters & adjustable iris can help deal with that.
2) You may find that having a small + diopter correction is helpful.
As you age, your eyes will change, and having shooting glasses with easily interchanged lenses can make chasing the perfect sight picture every year a little easiler.

Re: Free Pistol Glasses questions
Great , thank you, the 50 meters at my second club is indoors with knsa regulation lighting currently going in.
I do have a glass +1 lens, and I’ll look forward to lots of enjoyable testing. The 50m lanes at the club are pretty quiet.
I won’t get it for three months though, am i crazy to even consider trying to shoot the mp90s at fifty? I wonder how many clicks I’ll need to move from 10m

I shoot my Benelli outdoors at 50yards all the time. With SK Pistol Match ammo, I only have to go up a couple of clicks.
Re: Free Pistol Glasses questions
I've seen a local free pistol match WON by Don Hamilton back around 1980 with a long slide S&W Model 41 when the electronic trigger on his Hammerli 152 died. He holds the range record of 558, and I think it was that match.
I was on a team in college when free pistol was added to the disciplines being shot. Only the top varsity shooters got real free pistols. Everyone else used their standard pistols, and did fine with them.
