Feinwerkbau P8X or Steyr EVO 10 ?

Hello,

I'm new to this forum. I've practiced 10m air pistol shooting many years ago and am now coming back to that.
Having no pistol at the moment, I'm looking to buy a new one and have now narrowed down my options to these 2 models: the Feinwerkbau P8X and the Steyr EVO 10. Both with mechanical triggers.

Unfortunately I have no way to try the P8X before buying it...
I've seen some reviews and comparisons between the P8X and the LP10 but not exactly to the EVO 10.

I believe many of you have tried both, and so would really welcome and appreciate any comments you might have on this.

Have you considered the walther lp500? Ive had one for 3 months and it's a dream to shoot... ive never liked the steyer loading system...

I can't help you directly, but I shoot a P44, the model that the P8X replaced. The benefit of the FWB seems to be that it has more fitment adjustability and sighting options than other models. I had never done 10 meter shooting when I bought mine, and now I'm happy I had the opportunity to play around so much with all the options available on my gun. Maybe there's something to be said for not wanting too much complexity, but I feel like I got to learn how all those adjustments affect my shooting and which ones I really need.

I'm most likely replacing the P44 this year and my leading candidate right now is the P8X. I know there are some features I want and have grown used to, and the Feinwerkbau trigger is phenomenal.

The P8X does seem to be a great option, and I personally love its looks too. The only reason why I'm still considering the EVO 10 is mainly due to Feinwerbau not having representation or resellers in my country (Portugal). I can of course buy online in Europe. As for Steyr, well, you can find all information in English very easily and there's a local official distributor very nearby... I imagine that if any problems arise, it will be much easier do deal with.

Lot's of thinking ahead, and the main problem is not being able to try them before making a decision...

I will get a P8X as my P44 replacement when the time comes. The grip/trigger
adjustability is phenomenal and I dont like the numbness of an electronic trigger.
Ive had the pistol 7 years and its never needed a shop visit.

Whatever you buy, there are accessories available. Weights, alternate sight posts and such.
I would suggest spending a bit more and securing those things you might want to experiment
with soon after you get the pistol. they have a way of being in the catalog, but not being available
for very long........

I've been shooting the Evo e since it was released. Before that I had a Walther LP400. After a few years with the Steyr I had an itch to scratch; I'd hit a wall and I thought a new pistol was the way ahead or just to prove it was the pistol holding me back. Roll back a month or two and I bought my mates LP400 and started shooting it and the Steyr. My scores went up for both pistols and I broke the 550 barrier I couldn't get through. Couple of weeks later and anther friend who can't shoot at the mo lent me his PX8 and I played with that for a few weeks; again very similar scores with all 3 pistols which I thought was a good sign.

What I think, and it's just me so you might be completely different is the FWB and Walther have fantastic grips. I think I prefer the mechanical triggers over the e. My Steyr is absolutely dead and its soulless. The Walther is way more rewarding to shoot; the FWB is nice too. All three have great adjustment features. I think the FWB trigger shoe is fantastic. The Walthers is nice and I really don't like the Steyr but I use it because I tell myself it must be good as they put it on there!

I shot my first comp after a 3-4 week break over Xmas and I scored 528 or something like that; about 30-40 less than I was shooting at the end of last year. That was with the Steyr. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement so I pulled out the Walther and shot a few cards with that. Much tighter groups. Went back to the Steyr and shot another compa week later and shot 537. Shot a comp tonight with the Walther and got 546. Still below where I was but better.

So what does this mean. Well i know from the back end of last year I shot all three pistols equally well. I also know (now) taking a break and not practicing means I can't just jump back in and shoot 550+.

For me, I personally enjoy the Walther over the Steyr (I hate to say that) and I'd prefer the PX8 to it too if he was selling it. My Steyr has a Rink grip on it but I think I'm going to go back to standard again; either way neither comes remotely close to the feel of the Walther or the FWB. I few years ago one of the reasons I got rid of the Walther was concerns about servicing, Steyr is very easy to get sorted. I'd have the same concerns about the FWB too. So, I've kept the Steyr as it should by all accounts be the best. I'm going to get it serviced as it's probably due one now and it will give me piece of mind when I get it back. I'll then knuckle down and this year I'll aim to break 570. That's quite a jump but last year I went from a pb of 546 to 564 and I think that was just applying the basics.

It's a real shame you can't get both then sell the one you like the least! That's ok if you are buying second hand but not when you buy new unless you're flush with the cash! Whichever pistol you get or got, will serve you well I'm sure.
