My observations from the final USA Shooting board meeting of 2020.
1) The Junior Olympic pistol match will be held at Fort Benning sometime in June. This event will have USA Shooting coaches and trainers to teach, refine and mentor future Olympians.
2) USA will bring the level of funding for rifle/pistol up to the level of shotgun. This is a pronounced change from previous years of reduced funding for rifle/pistol.
3) Stay tuned for the completion late this spring of Hillsdale College $8.9 million dollar shooting complex that will include shotgun, rifle and pistol. USA Shooting will be partnering with them to offer events at their facility. They will be able to house and feed athletes for $55-60 / day. This will include 25m, 50M outdoor ranges and an indoor 10M range. This facility will add many additional opportunities to youth shooting athletes thru their partnership with USA Shooting.
4) CEO Matt Suggs stated that Junior Camps are a priority of USA Shooting and they will get back to doing those to refill the pipeline of athletes for team U.S.A. This is another good change for our youth.
5) This was the final meeting for Abbott, Keith Sanderson and Jim Henderson as a USA Shooting BOD member. Jim has been serving as the athlete representative on the board.
6) Jim was warmly recognized by other members of the board that he has been selected as the new DOD for International shooting with the Scholastic Action Shooting Program. That will bring more opportunities to youth that wish to pursue the Olympic path.
Jim Henderson stated that he will "bring more youth to the fun side of precision shooting."
