New 747

Post by spektr »

October 2016 Wynnewood Oklahoma, and I scored a Daisy 747 target pistol in a gun shop. FINALLY got to leg out the tank today. Just as nose heavy as I remember them from so long ago. Same adjustable trigger that gos from Uncommonly heavy to you gotta be freekin kidding me heavy. Difficult to shoot well, and thats the point, it is THE premier smooth trigger trainer. Got a super deal, I bet if I hadnt bought it it would still be hanging on the hook, nobody appreciates them any more.
Except maybe Rover......

I picked up a 747 a while ago and think it is great, however getting it that way took a little "adjustment".

On the trigger, take a look at Nygord's notes on making the 717 into a match grade piece. try:

I have not fooled with my 747's trigger except to grease the sear, which helped a lot. Nygord's mods make sense. At least one bloger who has tried them claims the sear's material is too soft to hold adjustment and needs a better "landing" for Nygord's adjustment screw. I'll leave that to better gunsmith's than I. Your choice. I can adjust mine to less than 500 grams, and have backed it out to 520 or so; I'm happy with it.

The change I did make was to replace the gips. Using the shape of a Gamo Compact as model, I cut new ones that changed the grip angle as far as I could. I rotated the whole grip 7 degrees about the vertical axis 'cause I shoot cross dominant and added a palm shelf. I Also changed the thumb shelf to hook down toward the middle finger tip instead of parallel to the barrel. Night and day. Totally unstable to "Feels pretty good." "I can't hold the muzzle up," to my favorite. The new grip is a little fat and the shelf a bit long, so I may not be ISSF legal, but I'm 73 and don't give a damn.

Good on ya! +1 on the above post.

I'm certain the guys creamin' their jeans about the latest bells and whistle will be extremely unhappy when you kick their ass (using RWS Basic, of course).
