Are you left handed?

Yep, slightly more cognitive burden but some benefits also. If you like it, do it.

Can you do it and does it improve your shooting? If so it's a yes yes. If like me you have 50% chance of hitting the back wall then avoid it.

Shooting with both eyes open is the BEST way. Use a light color occluder (blinder) if you're having problems with double vision. Do NOT try closing your left eye.
Re: Right eye dominate. Is it ok to shoot with both eyes ope
You want to shoot with both eyes open, and with the same amount of light going into both eyes. If your right eye is strongly dominant (and you are right handed), you may not be bothered by the double image of the target. If it bothers you, use a SMALL piece of frosted tape on your shooting glasses to block the image. Don't "wallpaper" your left lens with tape, and don't use an opaque blinder.

You're supposed to shoot with both eyes open.

Tried it. Can't do it. .sparky wrote:You're supposed to shoot with both eyes open.
I also use a black blinder.
Do what works for you.

Why are you using a black blinder if you don't have both eyes open?
Why are you using a black blinder at all, instead of light one?

I mean I cant shoot with both eyes open and unblinded.Rover wrote:Why are you using a black blinder if you don't have both eyes open?
Re: Right eye dominate. Is it ok to shoot with both eyes ope
The black blinder will cause the pupil of your aiming eye to open up a bit more than it should, which reduces your depth of field (range of focus). Most people also use too large a blinder. You only want to block the double image of the target. Carefully placed, and 3/4" square of frosted tape works fine. If you completely block the non-shooting eye, the loss of peripheral vision affects your balance & stability. In extreme cases, it can make you dizzy.

Our AP target is two dimensional . No need for 3D vision .sparky wrote:You're supposed to shoot with both eyes open.
Shooting with both eyes open if you are handed on your dominant eye is an advantage in shotgun as the target there is 3D and you need stereoscopic vision to better locate the clay .

"Our AP target is two dimensional . No need for 3D vision", said Elmas.
Sparky didn't say you needed 3D vision. He said you're supposed to shoot with both eyes open, which is correct.

These solve all problems. Both eyes open with no limitation to light entering non sighting eye.

These still reduce the light going into the-non aiming eye. That will cause the aiming eye to dilate slightly, reducing your visual acuity. The size of this blinder will reduce this effect somewhat, but a frosted blinder would still be better.deadeyedick wrote:These solve all problems. Dr Norman Wong is an eye doctor and shooter. Here's what he has to say on the subject:
