Anyone Here Have An Opinion On Venturi Air Compressor

Wondering about life of compressor and its ability to take moisture out of air. Does any of its oil end up causing problems in target air pistols like Morini or Steyr? Breakeven point compared to Dive shop would be about 280 refills.

I have one on order, hopefully for delivery in early May.

You must have a very agreeable refill place to charge $4.65 a refill. Here in Dallas, at $10 a top-off (none of them are refills, actually), the $1300 AV compressor will pay for itself after 130 refills. Offset somewhat by additional savings on hydros, commute expenses to the former fill station, etc.

I've avoided a compressor like the plague until now. Like speed boats, I've always felt it better to know someone with a compressor/speed boat, than own one myself. However, I've been doing some reading of the (few) reviews out there, and in addition to the fill rate, I am impressed with the large water filter, the water cooling system that appears to work very well, and convenient 110v A/C power.

Probably a lifetime. But one lifetime is better than two lifetimes. Or 8 lifetimes with a $4500 Bauer compressor.

If the AV holds up well, there's always the prospect of topping-off tanks for others at $5 a pop... sorta like returning favors to others for their refill help prior.

I plan to make it at least another 30 years. Three to four top-offs a year will make 90-120 or so. Hope you have the same time frame expectations.

Never did get a complete fill from a paintball or dive shop, and they treat carbon fiber bottles the same as the aluminum and steel versions ie careless. The Air Venturi offers a desiccant filter on the intake in which we know doesnt do much. It might last a long time or might not, what is the life expectancy of the parts and will parts be available in 5yrs?

At 6cfm and a proper desiccant placed on the output air this seems a bit better if you have the funds. Even if a few buddies pitched in together it is by far a better deal and meant to have a much longer service life: http://www.sheldensportinggoods.com

A moisture trap and oil trap or combo trap aren't hard to find. They use them for air that feeds spray guns, either of those will damage a coat of paint. Though admittedly finding a trap rated for 4500 PSI might be a bit tricky.

Hooking up moisture and oil traps designed for 150psi (MAXIMUM) to a 310 bar compressor might be interesting!
I hope you are not in my neighbourhood when you try...

Joe Brancato sells a high pressure (4500 psig, 300 Bar) molecular sieve filter/dryer for $400. This type of filter can be seen @ http://www.airtanksforsale.com/. The details are obfuscated along with where to get replacement filters, but the concept is sound - much like these Chinese compressors.

All SCUBA compressors have a similar filter (rated for 200 Bar) but remove ~99% of the moisture via a back pressure maintaining valve and a condensate drain valve. These Chinese compressors don't have moisture or oil control included in the design from what I can tell, but then neither does a shoebox compressor or an Altaros booster. SCUBA compressors are designed and maintained to a higher standard because of the higher air quality requirements and subsequently cost more.

Personally, buying a Bauer Jr or similar compressor suitable for filling SCUBA tanks is more cost effective than people give them credit. They are highly engineered, have a good resell value, and eliminate the concerns over moisture and contaminants. I own a shoebox and an Ataros booster because they are compact, relatively inexpensive, and I have a fascination with high pressure air devices - not because they are practical for filling a precision PCP airgun. I use a SCUBA tank for that.

But, whoever said airguns were practical? Good luck and have fun!

Edit: here is an advertisement (i.e. for sale) at the Talon airgun forum for such a filter marketed for similar compressors: http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=35068. As a note, I am not a member of that forum nor do I own any of Joe's products. But, Joe has been around for some time and seems to sell good quality products - from what I can tell and having never owned any.

I just did the math in my head. Dive shop charges $5. I might get a deal because I used to dive a lot, wreck diving, dam inspections, vehicle retrieval, etc. a lifetime ago.
