MegaLink targets too bright!
My club uses MegaLink electronic targets and recently it changed to internal LED lighting (within each target) and some days (I guess it depends on my eyes, and how tired I am, blood sugar, etc.) I find the target SO BRIGHT that it's hard to look at it. I have shooting glasses with an adjustable iris but even at the smallest aperture the target seems too bright. And of course the depth of field changes also when the aperture is reduced.
With rifle shooting and a 6-color iris I have never had a problem because changing to a more suitable color eliminates the problem for me. It's only pistol shooting where I find this a problem.
Are there any solutions for pistol shooting with shooting glasses? Something variable?
Thanks

Re: MegaLink targets too bright!
The light level on the Megalink may be adjusted by use of the button on the circuit board on the right hand side of the unit behind the front cover. The default setting is maximum and I seem to remember that you have to press the button twice before it will change the setting, one level per press. The unit will then retain the setting after being switched off.
Does this help?

Re: MegaLink targets too bright!
Thank you. Interesting information. But unfortunately, we mere members of the shooting club don't have access to the targets themselves. All 8 are set the same way and it would appear that I'm the only member who finds them (sometimes) too bright.Rutty wrote:The light level on the Megalink may be adjusted by use of the button on the circuit board on the right hand side of the unit behind the front cover. Hmmm... since the brightness can be adjusted, how would one determine if the correct level of brightness was being used? I wonder if they've just left the targets at max brightness and that they're brighter than they should be.

Re: MegaLink targets too bright!
Depending on the brand of your shooting glasses, you might be able to get a tinted lense for it in your prescription. Alternatively there are some rotating filters available that work like the ones in a rifles iris do.

Re: MegaLink targets too bright!
IMO each shooter should be able to change the brightness of the target from the shooting lane. It's impossible for pistol shooter see the sights well to led lit target with full brightness. Making shooters to use special lenses just to dimm those overbright targets is stupid.
For the price what Sius and Megalink targets cost that feature shouldn't be too much to ask.

Are you saying that in a perfect world each shooter should be able to adjust the brightness, or that we're overlooking something and that it should be possible now?Coolmeester wrote:IMO each shooter should be able to change the brightness of the target from the shooting lane. What is:
- the level of the general range lighting (particularly the downrange light level), and
- the colour and shade of the target background?
Both these will affect the apparent brightness of the target.
Re: MegaLink targets too bright!
I don't agree that each shooter should be able to adjust their own targets. The range should be adjusted as a whole, all the same level.Coolmeester wrote:IMO each shooter should be able to change the brightness of the target from the shooting lane. Re: MegaLink targets too bright!
Another thing to remember is that an internally lit target with its light level measured in accordance with the ISSF rules will appear brighter than an externally lit target with the same light level (again measured in accordance with the rules).Spencer wrote:HmmMtl_Biker wrote:My club uses MegaLink electronic targets and recently it changed to internal LED lighting (within each target) and some days (I guess it depends on my eyes, and how tired I am, blood sugar, etc.) I find the target SO BRIGHT that it's hard to look at it. Both these will affect the apparent brightness of the target.
The former will be the light level reflected from the target; the latter will be the light level reaching the target. (6.4.14.2)
It's not a great problem however as the light level in the rules is a minimum.
Re: MegaLink targets too bright!
no, it's more of a function of ambient light. During summer one usually sets the TV brighter to compensate the extra light from sun. Otherwise the image's too dark. But in the evening, that extra brightness makes the TV too bright.

Re: MegaLink targets too bright!
Sorry for an off-topic question... But does the SIUS system also have an adjustable brightness pot on it's circuit board?
Re: MegaLink targets too bright!
Sius brightness can be adjusted by the monitor.

I'm asking about brightness at the target (within the target frame) for shooting... not the brightness of the monitor at the shooting line.Phil_S wrote:Sius brightness can be adjusted by the monitor.

Re: MegaLink targets too bright!
Bless you, Phil. I'll pass along the information to our rangemaster. Thanks.
Re: MegaLink targets too bright!
Even the least bright setting was too bright for out range in the beginning (not enough lights in the roof) so we solved it by adding a couple of strips of scotch tape over the LED light covers (plexi glass). This dims the light down a bit. You can use painters masking tape as well, but the targets appear more yellow then, even using the whitest tape available.Rutty wrote:The light level on the Megalink may be adjusted by use of the button on the circuit board on the right hand side of the unit behind the front cover. But as long as the OP doesn't even have access to walk forward the 10 meters to the targets there's nothing to be done, really. Except a 50% gray filter for the shooting glasses.
