I'm putting on a local match which includes ISSF Air Pistol. Unfortunately, the single target returning system that we used to use was left out in the weather (not me!) and has become ruined.
So I'm macgyvering a replacement to hold multiple targets and have them shoot in relays. Not ideal, sure, but better than no match. I realize that this solution does not meet ISSF target requirements (there will be two horizontal rows of targets, for one thing), but the competitors are okay with it and we've done it before out of necessity.
My question is whether a 24-inch square is adequate for this purpose? It's a good size for making the backers from components like plywood and foam, but I'm worried that it may need to be wider. Thoughts?

B40-4 targets would fit nicely on a backer that size.

You don't really need backers. I've shot in matches where the 4 bull targets were just clothespinned to a wire strung across the range. It worked just fine; not Olympic quality, but neither were the competitors.
