Review of ELP-10 target "laser" pistol from Eko-aims

I bought this system 6 months ago. Did not want to post review until I put it through a few months of solid use. Now here is my review.

I wanted a system "target, pistol, monitor with automatic score tabulation" to make training easier.

The whole system came in a plastic case. System is made in Finland. Principle is the same as SCATT. It is an IR-camera pistol system.

Cost me about the price of LP-10. It does look like a toy system. My wife did make fun of me, asking "How do I like my TOY pistol ?"

This is the time proven IR-camera system, not the new laser system that Olympic Pentathlon event is pushing. I wanted a system that will score 10M shots, not a system that just tell me hit-or-miss in 8 ring. I think some newer laser systems do give you a precise hit score, but I did not look into those systems.

I was concerned about IR effect on eye. I was concerned about effect of staring straight at the invisible infra-red for prolonged period of time; did not want to get my retina French-fried. The sales person emailed me back some document on study of IR effect on eye. Study showed significant effect only if you are really up close, staring days at a time. So I bought into the study's conclusion of little IR effect on eyes.

Pistol is decent, but I still need to putty and grind grip to make it fit perfectly, but like LP-10 grip, so no big deal.

Trigger is not quite up to par with LP-10 trigger. It has a bit of side give. I dropped a few dab of silicon sealant around the trigger base. Trigger is much better now, but not quite LP-10 level yet. In retrospect, I might have bought the replaceable LP-10 barrel container, and just use LP-10 trigger and grip system. But I did not want to go through the process of changing barrel every time I want to shoot my LP-10.

The shooting distance can be from 5 meter to 15 meters. The computer will automatically calculate the distance difference to reflect the congruent corresponding score. The score is what it is. It is not the out edge of pellet score. but a dead center shot score. So score the somewhat lower compare to pellet outer edge score.

The system is easy to use, takes seconds to set up. I can shoot way pass mid-night if I want to.

It is good training. I don't know what the lag time between trigger and target hit is, but it feels quite long. I have to make an effort to have decent follow through time, otherwise the shot score will be everywhere.

So far the ELP-10 system score is a good 10-15 points below my actual score. But as long as I know there is a such difference in score, I have no problem with that. After all, I am using it as a training system, not as an actual scoring system.
