Gotta love that sound....

Post by zanemoseley »

I use paper targets, usually many many layers stapled on top of each other on a cardboard backer, pellets hit a solid lead disc in the trap. If I'm really in the zone and start stacking shots the sound changes as the pellet doesn't even touch paper and gives me a satisfying sound of lead on lead contact, instant gratification.

I use a cone pellet trap and when the pellet hits the center area, it has a distinct "ping" sound rather than the annoying sound when it hits the sides of the trap. It does give you instant gratification like you said.

There is an outdoor range that I shoot on quite a bit that has steel targets at 100 yards on some of the firing points. On one particular firing point, shooting an X at 50 yards with the .45 will get you a "ting!". On a different firing point, shooting an 8 at 7 o'clock gets you the same audible response.

Choose your firing point wisely :)
